well I just scored a '31 coupe body (well I'm borrowing it for awhile) so I think I am gonna swap out the tudor body and tune up a few things on the banger and try to get it in the west coast TROG. So we'll see. Either way I will be there in October

Do you mean Cherie place in Compton? :D That's miles away from the Autoclub track / Cherry Ave, Fontana.

  7. I don't think so, Steve was right, before the Speedway Cherry ave. out there was rough.
Parts of it still is, pack accordingly when passing through.
The Speedway is a nice facility, Older Son raced on the Rolex Road course out there many times, very much a drivers track.

Yeah I was being a bit facetious, I wouldn't really know , I live 8000 miles away , but I did have a "South Central , LA experience" in Cherie Ave , Compton, a few years ago. I guess they don't build racetracks in Beverley Hills or Bel Air.

cherrie ave was a hang out for drugies , hookers & thieves back in the '70s-'80s . I was driving truck then & they would steal anything they could get . tires , fuel , tarps , straps ................... just my experience .............. Kaiser steel was where the Fontana race track is now

  10. Steve,
yes, pretty rough part of town there.
The race track is just north of the Kaiser plant, or, at least some of it is still there.
97, your Compton experience is not out of the norm. For a while I was involved with a shop in Compton and had some issues. When the Ukraine contingent in our shop was involved, all the problems just disappeared.
Enough with this stuff, get out in the shop and get the cars ready, May is just around the corner!!

  11. I realize it has been awhile but I run bolts on myRiley 2 port which ran 84 at the antique nationals a few years back, The engine is still running with no problems with the bolts. It was setup with bolts by Jay Steele.

  12. Read my post above. I think the 2 port is about 9 to 1

  13. Got one years ago (in a Volvo 120 deal), and I can just say, patina suits this! Normally I'm against faking old looks, but this one looks so new, that it almost pains me!
So I stashed the patinated away, until I find the "perfect" project to put it on... hopefully in about a year! (Housework before hot rods... sigh...) ... and then I'll put a new one in the 220.

  14. Is that an original Cragar? The Denver Millers were notorious regarding hole drilling, locations were off some were drilled on an angle. Have you tried threading a stud through the hole? What size is the hole in the head? You might open it up a little. I bought a Winfield repop head and had to open the holes to get it on.

I think there is a Zipper Lakester with one and Cigar Larry has one of the Olds DOHC in his tub.

The Mazda Miata engine, stripped of all it's electronic junk and equipped with carbs looks a lot better than the V-TECH

jimski , thank you for that ............ steve

  22. Bluto is as always very enlightened. At the risk of being chastised, the Miata motors are very good, very underrated.
My Son raced them for a number of years in Enduro racing. Class rules said stock stock stock, with proper preparation they would run a 25 hour race without incident. Best one we did ran a 25 hour race, changed oil then ran another 8 hour. After that, we ran on dyno and found virtually no loss of power. Then it ran another full season of 8 hour races. My Prod mod car made 175 hp at wheels, only changes, ECU, pistons and cams.

The little engine can be made to look very old. The carb setup cost more than a good used engine
It's not my idea someone on the board mentioned it long enough ago that I have forgotten who it was.
I would use it in Mrs B's Miller but with my heart. I'm still trying to get the DO HAL and five main block made and built. I have tossed away another year getting my better Basically it' better to be alive, now. The iron bits will follow. As I look out into a snowy yard, I hope

  24. Any one have pics of the engine in its "hot rod" guise?

Does any of the 4Banger stuff turn up at the Grand National Roadster Show? I'm going out for the first time in two weeks, have no idea how big the show is compared to the LA Roadster show in June. Bob

  27. Google image search does not always produce the desired results especially if one doesn't know what they are looking for so thanks?

    Is this one???

Funny I was about to post that pic. Now imagine some carbs instead of that polished manifold and fuel injection.

When did they make that Miata twin cam, and are all of them the same? Sure would look nice in a small Roadster. Bob

  30. yes, a 1.8 ltr

All the Miata motors were DOHC, the 1.6 was intended to be turbo equipped. The production motors even had the oil return bung.

My Wife has a 2010 touring Miata. 2 ltr with VCT and 6 speed, it drives like a video game.
