    Got a bit of time to myself...started working on steering column position. The main problem is me, at 6'2" I just don't fit. Really should lengthen the body 4" which would clean up a lot of issues, such as leg room, how the lower part of the body hits the pumpkin and so on. The other part of me doesn't want to start cutting it up, no matter how bad it is. Maybe if someone under 5'10" wants a Morton and Brett project. No matter what I do, will always look like proverbial monkey and a football.

    Those look nice. Dan makes equally fine gears, once a decade or so he makes a run of fine tooth gears for model T's. One day I'll get a set.

    I think it it were mine and I was as tall as you, I'd cut it at the lowest place beside the driver and rivet in a piece as long as you need/want. Then if you or someone in the future want to go back to original, it wouldn't be much of a job to remove the extension piece. Rivets would have an original style appearance I believe.

  5. I’ve been having some fun the last couple of days. Got the hopped up banger and trans installed into the junk rod, and finally found out why my Model B wasn’t turning over… IMG_3418.jpeg IMG_3476.jpeg

    Coincidentally I decided to tear into a transmission I got for free, to find it super mint inside!

    Also put in a stock wheel, about 4" difference on the column angle or 2.5" closer to the firewall on a horizontal plane.

    If you need extra room, consider cutting the drivers side backrest out and offsettng the seats with the driver some what behind the passenger. This will give you more legroom as well as more shoulder space. Also shorten up the steering column to get the wheel out of your chest.

    That has crossed my mind, did it on my last speedster. 4" set back on the passenger makes a huge difference in not having your elbow in your neighbors ribs. I am sure you also appreciate the emotional issues of cutting into an "original" body. The column is going to loose at least 2", I prefer a higher steering wheel, so I can get my hands under the wheel. How was Turlock?

    Pretty sure i saw somebody on Hamb making adapters for rotating float champers on Winfield model S and SR for sidedraft configuration. Anybody her knows who that was?

    The pictures below are my late friends 1917 Hudson Indy Car, which won the Great Race twice. The new picture shows the navigators seat further back than the drivers seat. There wasn’t very much room in the cockpit as the navigators shoulder is outside the body.

    I don’t think the “Mechanics” seat was installed in the older picture.

    Dan has been out of the Winfield adapters, plans to make more in the future but no schedule yet. I offset the seats like that in my Speedster, makes a huge difference if you want 2 adults in the car. I'll try to find a picture to ad.

  13. Welp, I struck up a deal with a friend for this head contraption and the Dan Price side cover..

    I'll admit, I have absolutely no clue what I am doing. This looks to be similar to a Mazda B2000 head, or something of the likes... Quite the setup! Does anyone have advice on OHC setups? I'm not sure if I want to make it belt, chain, or shaft driven. 421747020_10228691404142959_5979608245583587938_n.jpg 422111392_10228691403462942_7816762544078292082_n.jpg 423516272_10228691402982930_62188736406753298_n.jpg 423538745_10228691402662922_7439626489469080147_n.jpg 423584292_10228691403262937_2039600491991083354_n.jpg 423675048_10228691402382915_8888622920932961885_n.jpg 423675307_10228691403862952_1207500199819949756_n.jpg 423694079_10228691404062957_5596761028610281563_n.jpg

    I seen that and was tempted to contact him. Looks like a lot of the hard work is done but how accurate? I would be concerned how flat everything was and how much needed to be corrected to work. Most 4 cylinder overheads are driven with serpentine belt.

  15. Belts or chains or gears all have challenges
    In addition to that you need decide drive either crank or cam
    It isn’t voodoo magic just straight forward engineering

    That’s a cool piece. Just the thought of designing that adapter plate makes my head hurt.
    Keep us informed as you gather info.

  17. I just noticed the head spacer is not welded instead held together with tie bolts
    If it doesn’t leak should be ok

  18. After doing some looking around, I think I've figured out what I want to do. 90's Honda SOHC engines have a pretty good support for adjustable cam gears. As far as driving it all, I was considering going off the cam.

    I may sound naive, but what would differ by driving it off the crank versus the cam other than cam/crank speed?

    I definitely will do! I plan on running my side driven water pump and mag with this. If I can figure out how to run that oil pump, I'll do that too.

    Would making a multi-layer copper gasket to sandwich between them be overkill?

    The biggest difference between cam drive and crank will be the cams configuration
    I cannot see the cam well enough to make that determination of rotation
    Yes you’re right about Honda or Toyota adjustable pulleys
    After that Gates has a catalogue specifically for engine timing belts that will get you part numbers lengths and widths
    Then it gets easy
    Crank drive has issues with sealing up oil and location out front

  20. This is how the obsession starts right???

    Fortunately I only had one head stud snap, I’m going to try and get that welded to a nut pretty soon.
    Here’s a few more photos of the head, it’s definitely something.

    After looking back at the photos, I notice some plugs over the exhaust ports. I wonder if that’s some sort of vacuum line delete or something..

    assume everyone has seen Ryan's post about Dan Webb (not to mention the other's involved) & his beautiful racecar here
    https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/dan-webb-pisses-me-off.1309591/

    It would appear that this has a reverse flow camit (not sure of correct terminology) where the intake & exhaust ports are swapped IMG_0247.jpeg
    It's a beautiful car with much work put into it, but I can't see much written about the engine it's self. Does anyone here know the details of this engine or have experience with a reverse flow banger?

    I have just installed my equalizer intake with a pair of 97s. The intake does not come with a throttle arm and the one off my Ansen is not very comfortable on there. Is anyone aware of a throttle arm that works with this intake? Snyder's sell one, but I'm not sure if it works or do I have to make one?

  23. Yeah, reverse port motor, they do run pretty good.
    I know the Bville racers have tried this, the common complaint is the exhaust ports cracking badly (repurposed intakes)
    Easiest way to reverse the cam is to cut off the front and attach to the rear of the cam. Easier than say making from billet and conveying the desire to cam grinder for port layout/crank config/firing order.

    Hey John;
    from post #67;
    "IMHO, pistons will be the issue for 3 reasons;
    1. most modern pistons are now metric dia so look for something like 98.5 dia.
    2. Compression Height, controls final CR, most modern pistons are much shorter than stk Mod "A/B"
    3. Rings package, the modern rings are necessary for better oil control and reduced drag.
    If you are going to race this, custom pistons are the only way to go, I like Ross, get your wallet out.
    Best, John"

    This might help: from another OT forum, in 2009, so I don't know if it still holds, but worth calling for;
    fiatdude found out J&E could/would modify off-the-shelf pistons for small amt of $ for each change.
