*****'in just *****'in! Leno for prez. Coolest thing about Leno is how much he gives back to the hobby. Read and heard he spends his own money to build or have made parts for these cars that would be otherwise unobtainable both for himself and makes enough for others as well. He's keenly interested in the big picture.
This type of fabric body was predominantly, if not exclusively made by Weymann and also available on Lagondas of the same era, as well as other upmarket Britmobiles. Rivets and chicken wire - love it!
I dont hate him for being rich but I do hate him and all the others that make "personal collection" out of the public eye. While I have no personal knowledge of it, i have heard of him buying cars that "are not for sale". For example a guy just restored his fathers car, they guy would never sell it due to sentimental reasons, but ridiculously high offers are thrown out till the guy gives in and sells..... Abuse of wealth.
Sure... That guy sounds like a real victim. ( if it even happened that way ) If he didn't want to sell the car, all it would have took is say No ( and mean it )
I never said I hate him. get a freaking clue and read before you go ranting. If you actually read what I wrote I thought I was quite complimentary of him. Plus the fact this whole thread is about a cool car he owns.
We seem to have a segment on here who feels that if they haven't posted at least three negative comments about someone or some vehicle they feel is undeserving they haven't done anything that day. One guy has to knock the tires designed in 1948 and another whines about some rumor that Leno bought a car that some guy said would never be for sale. From what I've seen he doesn't buy finished cars except those that are brand new. Most are cars that have something special about them and then they get the complete redo in his shop. Also he isn't afraid to drive them which says a lot to me. He sees them as cars and not just part of the portfolio that should grow in value faster then the market and that says a lot.
I could not love a human baby more than that car. And as an American capitalist, I applaud him for being successful, and yet not an ***hole. I think we should invite him to the Roundup. Of course, the beer is on Jay.
I can't help myself. I have a tire fetish. I've bought 5 singles for a car and put each one on until I found the one that looked the best (this is a real pain in the *** when you are talking about a split rim). There are two pervasive comments you see all the time (not just here either). *****ing about guys with big collections and *****ing about guys that don't use their 27 blown roadster as a commuter car. The beauty of America is that we can all do whatever we want with our own sh*t. If that means burying a mint 32 3 window in the backyard then so be it.
Here's another turbo 8-liter Bentley, which I think is also owned by Jay Leno. The first time I saw and read about that one in R&T I wished I could buy it. Jumbo's Bentley: http://www.stanleymann.com/sales/ht9029_1.html#article
In high school and a few years after I graduated I worked for a guy who had a nice collection of cl***ic cars, this gentleman owned the 29 Bentley 4 liter that won LaMans in 31- the car has been sold now but one of my favorite memories was riding in that car and taking a quick trip through Burger King's drive thru ... He also had a speed 6 Bentley... What a amazing car that is for the era it was built..
The majority of Leno's cars are more curiosities than anything else, to me. Most are very beautiful, but not in the way that stirs my hot rod soul. On RIDES, Leno said something to the effect (I'm WAY paraphrasing here) that "the manufacturer's designers and engineers get paid a lot of money to do what they do and that we shouldn't mess with that". It struck me as the most UN-HOT ROD thing a person could possibly say. I'm glad there are fellows out there ******ing up these cars as well as restoring and actually driving them, a big kudos to Jay for that, but a hot rodder(?), uhhhhh maybe at best. BTW, the hot rod Bentley shown is incredible, definitely! .....just not my cup o' tea.
