I've used that engine Restore in my '59 Chevy Apache that had the 350 Pontiac .in it and it did slow down oil burning quite a bit

Somehow, this style of tach just seems wrong to me. With the RPM scale on the right side, and a pointer that drops down as the RPMs go up . . . It all comes across as counterintuitive to me. But for only $15.95, what the hell. Maybe if the needle swept from the bottom to the top . . ? Your "new-in-box" example may be the only one in existence!
Yeah. Rare never means valuable in my case! Haha The artist's rendering is pretty good in my opinion.
With gravity ***isting the needle downward, it conserves horsepower to cut an extra .000000001 off your ET!
Or you could do like the sports car racers used to do, and rotate the tach face so that your shift point is at the top. Makes any style of gauge intuitive.
Unfortunately I was born too late to buy a bunch of **** from J.C. Whitney, though my ford has JC Whitney fender skirts, back up lamp, and a chrome exhaust tip. I love going through old magazines and catalogs whenever I come across them to see all the ridiculous stuff you could get, and wish I had a time machine and a checkbook!
I've got a set of those same prybars- very handy over the years! I may have got them from Whitney, can't remember!!

I remember buying rings,bearings and gaskets for the 53 Merc motor [engine cost me $15, used] in 1965. Parts were $36 delivered. Sigh............. Ran like a top in my 50 crestliner. Oh, the single 4 bbl intake with an Olds Rochester 4 barrel cost me another $15 from a cl***mate in our junior year.
Although Whitney and Warshawski were austensibly one and the same company sharing the same catalog prose and illustrations, the prices were vastly different for the same goods. I somehow seemed to get both catalog, but from what I recall, Whitney was always cheaper.
My uncle's Whitney catalog was my Encyclopedia when I was 13. Bought some British sports car side curtains and a few other things that were Unobtanium living in the boondocks many years later.
I bought "finned valve covers" from J.C. Whitney for my FE in my 66 Galaxie in about 1975. They turned out to be Cal Custom valve covers. Still have them. Bought a few other parts but not sure I ever used those.
I bought front suspension parts for my Pinto in the late 1970's which were never delivered because JC Whitney went through one of their reorganizations. Never got my money back and never got any parts and never did business with them again.

Maybe some dimensions and measurements would help. How about a couple more pics from some different angles. Would you be able to easily open the case? See any numbers or other marks inside?

I never had the pleasure of perusing the JC Whitney catalog, a little before my time, but i have the same pleasure thumbing through Speedway or Summit catalogs.
i bought one new in '77--$75! also bought an isky cam for $58, and picked up a NOS set of johnson lifters through "tradin' times" for a ten-dollar bill!
