Whoa! Never said she was my girlfriend...just an ugly girl...Nope, I was solo for this flight. The jump itself was about 3-4 feet tall. But really steep. I just hit it fast and it would boost into the air. Second gear, low range, pinned. Oil pressure? I pretty much had the wind knocked out of me every time I did it so I wasn't paying attention. It was a fairly-tired Ram Jet 350 crate motor that had seen way worse. I was off the throttle in the air and for the landing anyway. It's hard on drivetrain if you are not.

'47 wagon lowered with model A front sheet metal. It is sitting in the garage waiting for me to finish it.

Thanks John. I did stick my nose under the back of the pickup bed and noriced a lot of heavy rust around the back of the frame. They used these pickups in the cane fields around here, so they were always in damp conditions. The chassis rails appeared to be dead flat right trhough, and almost straight as well, bit like a T Ford chassis on steroids, so making up a hotrod chassis out of 4 x 2 or 6 x 2 box would probably be an option.

    Still thinking about this one.........

    Cheers, Glen.

    Glen,

The difficulty with landrovers is because of their aluminum body, at first glance, they look better than they really are. Check the door frames and firewall (bulkhead) as well, as they are steel. The early series 1's had an 80" wheel base until mid '53 when then went to 86" and later to 88" on the short wheelbase trucks. I mention it because not all series 1 body panels bolt up like the 1958-2007 body panels do . Also check out the Series One Garage http://groups.msn.com/TheSeriesOneGarage/ Its an international MSN group with several guys from your neck of the woods and while they are more 'offroaders' than 'hotrodders' they can help point you in the right direction.

BTW this is a Series II I'm working on, I may even have it going by next summer (but probably not) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=172708
