I have had no problems with either...both good sources for parts

  2. I use Summit. If I'm in the area I shop at the store in GA. I've bought stuff for my '56 Ford there and if I had a problem they took it back with no problem. They did sell me some Gabriel air shocks once though and Gabriel doesn't make air shocks for a '56 Ford. Had to get Monroe's. Return was no problem. They have never gave me a free hat though and I'd love to have one to wear around all the Jeg's hats at car events I go to .. I don't want one bad enough to buy one though ..

Either or... I buy from both.

  4. I've ordered from both with no problems. Fast delivery.

When I have to order something I always check the HAMB Vendors first to see if I can buy from them. If not, then Jeg's or Summit.

I have found that Jegs shipps faster and that Summit has a wider selection of parts.

I try to support both companies more or less =

I have used both with no problems, since they both are priced similarly I try to use one then on the next order use the other so I spread my money around evenly.

I have used both for the last 30 years and say that I have never had a problem with either one. Summit seems to have more of there own name brand items if that matters. Bottom line both are good.

I did use Summits own brand headers for an Olds cutl*** when I installed a 455 in a OT 4x4 truck. They seemed heavy and well made for the price.

Not 100% true. Defective part they will send a call tag for. If they don't fit right, they will work with you. I used to work at Summit in the CS department. I have sent my fair share of call tags for stuff that the customer ordered incorrectly. A word of advice, be nice to the dude on the line. He isn't getting paid squat and he/she has to deal with a thousand ***holes everyday. There are rare exceptions though.

Well that sound good enough, but fact of the matter is that it really ain't easy to buy many of the parts I buy from local supliers.

There is a really nice perfornace store in my town, BUT, fact is, in my town, unless my "other than stock late model" plans include a SBC, I am pretty much SOL.

It has ALWAYS been this way in every place I have ever lived, even before internet stores.

I would have liked to be able to buy face to face and shoot the ****, but reality is that I NEED these internet stores.

bottom line is, we could go to the local speed shops if everybody would quit buying from the big mail order places.
I buy as much as I can from local or near local shops. I think summit is the walmart of the mail order. If I can''t find it locally or from one of the small online speed shops, then I go with Jegs, still family owned.

I have used both over the years... used to live about an hour from a Jeg's store... they both handle the same brands and prices are almost exactly the same... both have good customer service...

A LOT of the parts that come from both are DIRECTLY from Ketysone. If you have a buddy who runs a body shop or has a jobber account you can actually get the part for MUCH cheaper than any retailer. Ask him to look at his Keystone catalog and if he'll take 10% over invoice. Otherwise, either one is good. I use Summit more because Reno is 1 1/4 hours from me and pick whatever I want up right then and there.

i used to use summit, but their website ****s now. i found a Super Shops in El Cajon so i use them.

  20. I SUPPORT MY LOCAL SPEED SHOPS!!!!!! I buy almost all of my parts from Pro Stock Performance, Mopac and Wadsons Hot Rod Parts, even though Wadsons is my direct compe***ion!!! I support them and they support me back by giving me old axles and banjo rear ends from cars their street rodding!!!

What is real sad about mail order and internet stores is, I stock alot of traditional hot rod and kustom parts. A while ago a friend of mine came in and noticed some louvered air cleaners I had in the show room for $15 each. He then told me (all excited and proud) how he just bought the same ones off the internet for $9 each and mine are too much money. I thanked him for supporting his local rod shops.
He paid $9 USD for them ($14cdn at the time), plus payed to ship them up too Canada and then has the nerve to tell me I want to much money.

Not true. Keystone is a totally different en***y. Summit and Jegs buy direct from every line they sell. They both have wholesale divisions (A-tech and Buckeye) and are probably in the top 5 customers of every line in the catalog.

Since the economy tanked mailorder is flat giving away everything lately. Two years ago I could make a little bit of money on this stuff. For example, I sold a MSD ignition (distributor, 6AL box and coil) to a customer. It was a $450 order and the customer couldn't make $25 on it. I didn't make $25 on it.

Sold a holley carb and made .02% on it and my customer could make $3.

Mailorder is taking parts that cost them $200 and selling them retail for $210 and selling a ton of them...

I ordered some Mickey Thompson tires from Jegs for my son. Since I was a new customer, they actually called me to double check the order.

They're both good retailers but Jegs bankrupted South Side Machine with slimeball business practices. And then ripped off their designs to sell under the Jeg's name. SSM may be off topic and you may not care, but Jegs disrupted the flow of quality parts for the muscle crowd. I know I won't be forgetting what they did anytime soon.

  29. Always, FIRST see if your local guy will match the price, be prepared to show him or her a legitamate price quote from a compe***or, and if he cant, thank him and say I'll give you another shot next time 4 sure, then its Summit, or Doug Herbert, call Jegs if you want to speak to someone with a ****py bad at***ude.
