Oh yes! Dunk it in the back with a slanted kit, blast some Paragons and you could be straight from South Plainfield!
The first lime merc was owned by Joel Sheipe who has it to this day. It has my favorite roof ever. The unchopped green one was built in the early 80s by Harvey Bagshaw for Pete Coleman who is a custom king on Long Island. The red 51 4 door was built by Ted Malmgeen and son. When they chopped it ,the roof was in 1000 peices. The burgundy 51 with the fadeaways was biult by Bill Abate who brought the Dagostino Lincoln to Jersey. In the second batch we have the red somewhat Barris style 50 Merc that actually came from Michigan before Long Island.THe squashed 50 convert came was built by Bob Nitti from Jersey City N.J. who later restored the Aztec. The black chopped mec under it is owned by Joe Genitempo of Cedar Grove N.J. and was chopped by Bill Abate. The *** shot of the candy red convert was of a car that was built by Larry Kramer for Butch Akers of uostate N.Y.
Thanks 00 MACK ! Always cool to hear something about those cars. The chop on the Sheipe Merc is nice,I agree. Here's another pic.Would like to see more of it...

There's an entire thread on Joe "Fonz" Carloni. His Mercs would certainly fit in here, but there is an entire thread dedicated solely to him.
Very nice Mack, thanks for bringin' this thread back up. Hey I grew up part of my life near Atlantic City (Mays Landing).
Dragon Lady was owned by Ron Gentry down in Deland Florida back about 15 years ago, I haven't seen it in a while. Car's a tad bit over the top.
Hey, I just want to clear up some info. Ive been hanging around some vets of the jersey custom scene... Specifically Creig ****cher and Art Riporti. Both knew Joe Carloni very well. The fonz did do amazing work when he wanted to. Art Riporti tells some awesome storys of when Joe used to work for him... One story : Aparently the Fonz was driving in old brige shooting flames with one of his crazy choped mercs when the steering wheel locked up. He was driving which a friend when a turn came up and ended up crashing into a yard ( possibily flipping the merc over??) Both of the guys had to climb out of the side windows of 6 inchs.. They ended up getting out just fine but the merc caught fire. Car was a complete loss. Artie ended up giving Joe a 4 door parts merc which the fonz completely built from the same ideas of the crashed merc.. Johnny Street Rod or Alberdeen John which ever his nick name is, still has that same merc...
Kinda... I went to Art Riportis shop awhile back and was amazed to hear the same thing, he said that Joe was actually a kick*** metalworker and was capable of top notch stuff, but just kinda half***ed stuff for fun. The story (as I know it) was he was toolin around racin with the Jersey Torch, went to shoot flames and had a recently installed GM tilt column. Well, when he turned the key off to shoot, the column locked and sent the car off the road. It was the most mild of the chopped Mercs he had, the Maroon one with the simple pan frontend. Its in the thread above I started, at least Im pretty sure. There is another thread about him that a guy in Sweden started, I think the post accident shots are there, if not I have em. Wild, the car was wasted.
YOU GOT IT RIGHT the story with jim(the jersey torch) is just about what happen and yes art did grive joe a 51 merc
Joe "The Fonz" Carloni did alot of the metal work on the candy brandywinr chopped 50 coupe with the bubble skirts and the DeSoto grillez!
