Wow... I've been away from the computer most of the day, but this post has still gotten back to me. In fact, I even got yelled at by someone I don't know. Craziness.

Anyhow, I figured I'd post my point of view.

    1. The record. I think it's obvious... There has to be standard to measure everything against and I think the standard in place is prolly the right one... I mean, I'm no expert... but at least folks are running against the same variables and records have some common ground.

So no record for Jesse. I don't know that's what they were really after anyway.

    2. Jesse. He's no saint. I don't think he's the devil either. Folks seem to take one of those sides exclusively. That's actually good for the "persona" I guess... but whatever, I'm not into personas... or to be honest, tv shows. It's impossible to strip all of that away, but if you could I think most would see that he's just a talented guy with quirks.

Who doesn't have quirks? I certainly do... I, for instance, really like reggae music.

In any case, lots of emotion around this stuff and I guess I can understand why... passion and all... But sometimes I wish folks could truly and really step out of their own shoes and into someone else's. Doing so, would certainly chill out some perspectives.

Here's to hoping I don't get yelled out again today!

Not sure about that. When Jes has gone faster than me in my Vega, home built here in my garage, with an engine built by me here in my garage. on a legal flying mile course, I'll be more impressed. Of course the mega dollar mega inch five year pro built engine in a 'liner gives jes the advantage. So I'll temper my admiration. I did say that IMHO 199 is very good for anybody in anything the first time on El Mirage. But about 100 mph off a record. All the hype comes across like a WWF Worlds Title match. If you believe one you can believe the other. I know Jese is better than that. Why not show it?

It would have been cooler if it jumped thru a hoop or two that was on fire and then hit a drive thru on the way home. But if that is all you have, then its okay.

  4. Best post of this thread. ha ha ha

  5. Not wanting to really get into this what he has done and I have done stuff but Jesse has built a hugely succesful business that allows him to do these things. I find it hard to believe that most wouldn't love to have the freedom to do what they want that Jesse's succes has brought him. No he might not be building it himself in his garage but I doubt you are running a multimillion dollar a year business that demands that you be in a thousnad different places a year either. Is some of what is done for publicity? Of course but he has paid his dues in a lot of ways and I agree that the negative comments everytime he does something new come across more as jealousy than anything else no matter how you try and spin it.

If any regular (non celebrity) member of this board had done this in exactly the same manner EVERYONE would be patting them on the back rather than trying to find fault in it.

you know, I really liked Jesse in the beginning... then all the Garage Magazine shit came down and he acted like he didnt give a shit. Then I didnt like him anymore.

But the way I look at it...

Whether its all about publicity to him or not... I dont know. He could be out there getting in the public eye by claiming he had sex with Mariah Carey and acting like a punk... but he chose this avenue. One way he's on the cover of magazines and talked about on E! and in the tabloids... the other he gets talked about by us....

Either he's an idiot or he really does love what he is doing.

To me, he has a genuine passion for all things fast, and I can't fault anyone for that. :)

JJ = TV However a Damn good read about Mr. Don Alderson!

  15. And completely within their rights to be. Regular people like us doing it the hard way putting most everything on the line for that on bit of paper that tells them they have a WORLD RECORD.
No wonder they are so pissed, I'm on there side. This douche rocks up with a truck load of money, doesn't follow the right way to do something then claims the record?
If it was my best mate that did it I would have the same respect for him as this dick.
It reminds me of the a-holes all claiming to have served in the Regiment here in Oz, I ran into one at work recently. Told everyone he was SAS, but couldn't tell me what the cadre course was, what troop he was in, though he claimed to be a paratrooper in the SAS which would have placed him in Air troop! the fuckbag does not claim to have served anymore.
It belittles the effort, blood, sweat and tears of we who did it the right way.

Dude, you're the one with glamour shots floating around walmart.com... And I'm the fag?

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3635835

I found that one right between the Michael Jackson tribute DVD and the latest release of Twilight.

Don't get all defensive. It's cool if you Google my name. Probably best to keep it private though.....

And I agree with this... I'm on their side too... Only I don't really get all the name calling. I mean, it's like we are all in high school again... and name calling is cool... I bet we would all be listening to rap music and wearing our caps backwards.

Point being, it is what it is... no record, but cool none-the-less.

If I had money, I'd have all kinds of cool shit that folks would hate me for... Only I would live on an island in Hawaii... and no one would ever hear anything from me except for possibly the reggae music blasting from my compound.

I really do agree with you anyone of us did the same thing as he has done we'd be a an accomplished person, the normal joe that sis in front of the t.v. likes his persona and dosen't grasp what really is goin on each show and can't pick out the faults. I don't believe he is devil or an angel by any means but you can't fault the guy for being good at what he does and wanting to learn more. i wish I had half the knowledge of metal shaping and welding skills he has.

Wow some people are getting wadded up over things that ultimately in the end really don't matter. So what if a guy has money and wants to race a car. Why is that wrong?
