Alright. I have a problem with my Jetaway transmission on my 62 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Im going to try to explain this the best that I can.
So I rebuilt my transmission. Everything went together fine. The transmission works great. Goes up and down all the gears fine. But when I first start my car in the morning and go to drive it. When it is in "DRIVE" the transmission seems to be slipping a little bit in the low speeds from a dead stop. Then it will start shifting up. Then when I go to stop, it seems to slip or fall out of gear right before I came to a complete stop. This will only last for about a quarter of a mile, then go away. The sound of the transmission when it does that doesnt sound like its in first gear. After about a quarter mile the problem goes away and everything is fine all day. I replaced all the seals and clutch plates and tried 2 different valve bodies and still the same. I messed around with the TV rod. The TV rod adjustment is a little better. Like I said, it doesnt sound like it is in first gear when it slips and the car barely moves. I dont know if its the fluid or the torque converter. I used the Castrol DexMerc for older Ford and GM cars. I was thinking of putting some Lucas trans additive in there but Im not sure.
    Thanks,
    Steven

i'd say you have a fluid coupler problem. i believe 1to 2 the front coupler is empty then it transfers the fluid for 3rd.

do you have a service manual? they have a trouble shooter graph in them that would explain all this.

    good luck.

hey man, i have been having teh same issue on my 60. what i found was that one i had a leak cominf form somewhere under the bellhousing. i havnt taken it aprt to look at it yet, but will this summer.
but when it does get low on fluid i have teh same issue. its slips its way thourgh 1st the goes into teh otehr gears. when low on fluid shifts in and out of forth. what a drag!
when i put the luca sin all teh problems go away. but after it gets lwo again it al restarts. idk dude, tell me what you find, its such a hard tranny to deal with, i iwsh i coudl find a cheaper adapter kit.....

  4. I had one of those in my old 56 Olds 98 convertible..hated it even tho it worked as it was supposed to which was badly. Slip and slide, huge RPM drops between gears and finally I blew it up....couldn't find anybody in my part of the world to fix it in 1965...1965! Hell, the car was only 9 years old and all our local tranny shops were deathly afraid of Jetaways...I junked the car and put the motor in a cherry pie 50 ford with an Olds-to-ford tranny adapter. I'd seriously go with a Bendtsens $700 Caddy to 350 turbo or 200R4-700R4 adapter. You could very well spend that much on the jetaway and still not be happy with it....just my worthless opinion.
