Technical Jets for dual Stromberg 81s on a stock flathead

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by CaliforniaDreaming, Oct 30, 2022.

  1. Decided to go full traditional hot rod on my 41 Ford flathead business coupe. 221 cid maybe bored .030 over, nothing else, otherwise stock. Found and installed a supposedly original Eddie Meyer high rise heated intake with dual Stromberg 81s. Running a stock '41 distributor with vacuum retard blocked off.

Car runs really strong on the new intake and dual 81s. Seems lean though. Plugs are white not tan. Engine temp is fine. Running the stock 0.035 jets. Very sure I don't have a vacuum leak. I'll go to a richer jet size but I wasn't expecting that. I was expecting smaller jets.

    Thoughts?[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Since you're only asking for thoughts...what are you running for air cleaners? Lean is mean. if it runs good I wouldn't change a thing.

  3. Have one big air cleaner stuffed with some white filter material. Runs the same with and without. Just a little concerned about running too lean and burning valves or something else. I'll try out some 0.037 jets this weekend.[IMG]

I don't trust reading plugs with all the ethanol we have in our gas... for what it's worth.

^^^^^ not like it used to be. Won’t always get a proper tan color even when an A/F meter says it’s good.
