Word on the street is that Jim Deist p***ed at 1 today. Anyone have any more? (great apologies for the typo in the spelling in the ***le...can't figure how to change it)
Heard the same thing from a funny car driver a couple of hours ago, but no confirmation other than that phone call.
I did hear that but thanks for p***ing this on ... Jim D was a pioneer in Drag Racing Safety. I will miss him in his overalls chewing on dat cigar !! ..RIP JIM
Jim was a long time friend and a big help on all the Bonneville streamliners I was involved with from the 70's thru the 90's. My cars will always carry a DEIST decal.
alot of pioneers know that Jim was the real deal...hell, his products helped to save their lives. Horrible news..rest in power... T. Hilton
Sad news. We just saw Jim at the Pete Millar art show. I got a shop tour a few months ago and it was nothing but fascinating. The sheer knowledge regarding safety that Jim had in his head was astounding. So many types of motor sports owe a debt of gra***ude to Jim. A sad day indeed. RIP Jim Deist. D/Choppers
Guy's who built a legend with parts, equipment, design & there last name. If you have the luck to know sombody like Jim, Take all the time you can to learn from his tales - time is alway running out.
I read in the recent book about Mickey Thompson that he was the one who talked Jim into leaving his job and going into the racing safety biz.
