Jim McFarland p***ed away Oct. 7th, if you read HRM in the ‘60’s you will remember him as the Tech Editor. After a four or five year stint at Petersen he left to do engineering work for Vic Edelbrock Jr. His writing was concise and informative, and written for all to understand. Godspeed Jim.
Jim was a real engineer and a lot of the HRM stories were carefully read by the people at GM. When Vic hired Jim at Edlebrock, it really put the company head and shoulders above the compe***ion
I always made a point to read his articles, he had a different way of writing, kind of "conversational". He was great at getting the highly technical stuff across. R.I.P.
He didn't just push a pencil or bang on a typewriter. He could back up every word with precise know and skills. If he said it, you could take it to the bank ! A tremendous loss to every hobbiest and automotive professional. Few matched him and none bettered him.
Was McFarland also a SCTA tech inspector? That was the name of one of the inspectors in the movie "worlds fastest indian" just curious if that was to represent him.
May he rest in peace. Reading and trying to absorb what he wrote in those years contributed a lot to my education as a mechanic.
