Does anyone happen to know whatever became of Jim Walker out of Dayton OHIO?.He had some real period customs and Hot Rods.Is he still around?
I remember him!!! American Rodder did a big spread on some of his cars!!!! He had a really nice 36 3 window! and a couple of 32-34 3 windows!
Saw him tonite at our local cruise-in..Even get to go to his house once or twice a summer to see his wonderful collection of about 40 strong........
S****s brought Johnny Z and I over to Jims house, wow, what a cool place! Jim is really a cool guy, treated us like we were old buds. Told us to make sure we stop by every time we make it to Dayton. I hope to see some more of his treasures next time we're there. Doc
Hey, Joe, I bought a pair of Lincoln Y block alum valve covers off him last year, off Ebay. When I saw his name I asked. Told him I remembered his cars out at the Leadsled in Ohio. Told him what the valve covers were going on, but he never replied back. I thought, maybe, he wan't interested in old customs any more.
Any body know if he had a chopped, Carson topped '52 (I think) Chevy convertable, lowered, skirts, duals, shiny black back around 1956? On Christmas eve of that year it was parked around 11:00PM in front of the Lowes theater on Main Street. I was gawking at it and ran my dad's '48 Plymouth coach into the rear of some lady. Totaled the Plymouth. It was not a merry Christmas at my house! Jim
He's still got some killer taildraggers....and a few other things sitting around.. I think there are 42 cars at his house right now...
I know he had or has a chopped,Carson topped Shoebox.Plus some other cool Kemps. Thanks guys, glad he is still around.Would anyone have pics of his collection?.
It's Johnnie Walker boys, like the whiskey...and, I'm Colorado...... but I wish I had some of Jims cars ! Johnnie.
I took this picture of Jim at the old Walker Lincoln-Mercury dealership in downtown Dayton. I built the Carson top for this car, as well as chopping down the windows on two 49-50 Ford convertibles he had. I think he still has the Merc. I saw him at a swap meet about a month ago. Always a nice guy, a real cl*** act!
I remember my grandpa getting this issue of Motor Trend back in 1980 or so before customs made a big comeback during the early/mid 80's. This centerfold was about the coolest thing I had ever seen on paper!
Now I was told by someone on here that smooth running boards is a streetrod thing. I guess I shouldn't believe everything I read.
I got that centerfold out of the magazine at the school library when they threw it away in junior high.....hung on the wall in my room throughout my teen age years. Still have it, but my wife won't let me hang it in the bedroom anymore. LOL
