only had the chance to talk to jimmy once. Hell of a nice guy. he'll talk and drink beers for hours. and pictures of his truck do not do it justice. I wish I had a tenth of the skills he has. The only thing I think people have questioned on here which I wouldn't call putting him down just constructive critisizm is the is of the heym joints on the radius rods because of the way the spring attaches to them. I see their point with concernes of the sideways load put on them but obviously it hasn't been a problem.

  3. Shine's stuff is very cool and I would guess a lot are jealous. Chip - actually one of the coolest people I have met. I am sure he doesn't remember me but I talked to him for an hour at SEMA one year and then I was on Power Tour the year they took that '57. They put on this cool BBQ in St Louis, Boyd was so pissed people were asking for Chip's autograph on the same thing Boyd just signed.
And as for talent - WOW - is about all you can say. I think he sees things in automobiles some people will never see. Incredible talent.
Both top flight guys in my book.

That bike looks like "The Shine" took a guided tour of Fly Rite Choopers. The Sad thing is that that bike will get 20x's the press Jason's get and he's done that bike and better.

I missed the show, but I have always had alot of respect for his work. Except for the F150 he built. That one seemed like they were just whoring out his ideas onto the new truck with a timetable so accelerated that it made it impossible for the truck to be successful. That's just my take on it though as a designer.

SO... Is Jimmy Shine his real name? Isn't the guy going off to vietnam in Hollywood Knights named Jimmy Shine??

  8. Elmo beat me to it. If your name was James Felenshnerfer (whatever) wouldn't you go by 'Jimmy Shine'? Anyone who rips on him but doesn't know him is a jealous tool. His work speaks for itself: top notch craftsmanship. And if your going to criticize someones ride, you'd better post a picture of yours to show us all the 'correct' way to do it. Man, I HATE critics, if you can't do it yourself, you criticize the way other people do things. Unfreakin' believable. Two thumbs up! (yer a-hole).

Dj, you're right about Hollywood Knights.

I ran into Jimmy at the CHRR when he had the new wheels on the truck and the HAMB was in an uproar about them. He took the time to explain how those wheels were made and answered some other questions I had about the truck. Seemed like a nice guy to me. Into what he was doing.

Those who don't think Shine got ripped on the HAMB have forgotten about this!

  12. Recurring theme: People talk shit about people when they should be talking it about said person's projects.

Saying you hate the fuck out of the style of Shine's truck is one thing. Saying he's not talented is entirely different. Saying something of a personal nature that degrades the guys character should get you kicked in the balls if you haven't met him.

  13. Jimmy is clearly a good guy, but someone's gotta say somethin' to him about those hats.....V-E-R-Y bad!!! [IMG]

  16. You're absolutely right, Steve. I should not blow a gasket getting worked up over what someone said about someone else I don't even know. Some things obviously are not above criticism: The "Corvette Summer" car for example. However, I hear alot of ranting and raving about 'clown car' this, and 'gold-chainer' that and 'rat rod this' and 90% of them are pretty cool in my book. Yeah, maybe not the way I would do it, but somebody else put alot of effort into making it THEIR'S. Quit bitchin' and get yer ass in the garage is what I say! Now if I could just heed my own infinite wisdom, I'd be done with my Vicky by now [IMG]

Never met him. Heard he's pretty cool. What bugs me is that he gets so much credit and notoriety for ONE build. I know he's built a couple other things. I dig the shit out of that bike he built like 5 years ago. I just don't get all the hype over basically one car (truck). I know he busts shit out for the shop but what else bears his name besides the truck and the Bonneville roadster That I heard was bought all but done.

I'm definitely not bashing him. Just curious.

Plus why are we talking about him anyway? I think we're a bunch of homos who think he's hot.

Sam was on a recent episode of Overhaulin, and was also in an earlier episode of Rides. The one with Titus' car.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. There's a strange new breed of FNG on here lately.

Is this the beginnings of 2012? First strange posts from new people, then earthquakes, floods, famine and then..... apocolypto!? I need to stock up.

I was not really a Jimmy Shine fan, until I meet him 3 weeks ago and spent about 30 - 45 minutes talking about a car he was working on. He was a really nice guy, took his time talking to me and explaining what he was doing. He was not at all like he appeared on TV, aggresive .. he was really great. My opinion is completely changed after meeting him. The hollywood image is one thing ... but he is a real car guy like all of us that has tremendous talent and work his butt off to get the job many /most of us dream of.
