If you ever see me out dressed liked Mr. Fluevog I would hope that you beat me to a pulp, the car is very cool though. I always wanted to build and XJC custom, you know the two door hardtop version, a *****ing car right from the factory.
That's one of my favorite foreign-make customs (next to the Australian Holden sleds from a few years ago). The coolest thing is that this it started out as his Father's car, a Jag MK 10 that Sigurd Fluevog bought in 1965 ... Fluevog had it done as a tribute his dad after he died. Follow the links in here, it will explain the story... http://iowahawk.typepad.com/iowahawk/2007/05/humpday_dumpday_1.html
It falls into the dare to be different catagory for sure. In the article it mentions that the car is "Hirohata inspired". I think it looks great, I'd drive in it...
This is a story Dan asked me to write a couple years ago about this car. It never made the mag (and it's pre-edit) but what the heck... The HOLY TRINITY of CUSTOM. What you’re looking at ladies and gentlemen, is the culmination of the holy trinity of customizing. Yeah, that’s right… *The object. *The talent. *The visionary bad mother****er. This rare and elusive combination was recently applied to a 4 door Jaguar sedan by world citizen and shoe designer extraordinaire John Fluevog. “Now just who the hell is that?” you might say. Well, all I know is this… I recently moved down to the Bay area from Seattle. During my time up there I lived and worked downtown and there was one constant…Unbelievable chicks. Sharp, smart (as far as I knew) and stylish examples prowled the streets like streamlined cheetahs and they all had one thing in common…Fluevog shoes. These women drove us CRAZY man. I mean, it didn’t matter if she was a stubby little art pixie with a satin Korea jacket and a buzz cut or a taught CEO on her way to work. They were torturous, and they all wore this guy’s SHOES. The thing you lunkheads gotta understand is this, when it comes to women, THEY are the HOT ROD, and SHOES are hot rod PARTS. I asked the finest Fluevog wearing girl in the world for her phone number at a Chuck Berry show. She had piercing hazel eyes and was about 5 foot nine. I married that girl and found without the shoes she was 5 foot three, which is A OK with me. Thanks John. So, we’ve got a ***** millionaire shoe designer who loves and respects customs. A ‘65 Jaguar MK10 and (how do I spell these guy's names? - ), a shop chock full of serious craft. This cat could have plunked down a few hundred thou’ on some store bought Bentley, but decided to create this. THAT citizen, is a rarity. Not only did John step up with the opportunity and resources to put 3 squares a day on an army of craftsman’s tables, but the machine that came from this collaboration is a FANTASTIC piece. She’s CHOPPED, and chopped RIGHT Jack. Check the front end fit and the top surface of the bumper in relation to the grill and headlights. The crisp, elegant restraint throughout the entire car would have been enough, but then they came in with the wild lower panel lay out and the crazy material for the interior. This hits Fluevog’s working aesthetic perfectly. The car is a representation of the owner, done in the timeless and lush custom style by folks who got after it. HARD. If that ain’t cool enough for ya, dig this…It’s his DAD’s CAR. That’s right, John rode around in this Jag as a little kid. It was rusting away on blocks destined for dirt, and John had the soul and foresight to not just restore the car, but also invest art and life into it. I read a quote recently that said, “True Car Guys, like John and his late Dad, have a special kind of X-Ray vision that enables them to see the glory within (it works on people, too).” Sounds like the real thing to me. It takes strong focus and big money to build a “fabulous and dynamic” custom. They’ve always been super expensive even when built by their owners. Thousands of man hours, gallons of paint and welding rod measured in yards are standard, with no guarantees of success. Way to go John, ya got anything cool in a size 8? My wife’s birthday’s comin’ up…
I dig his "Hirohata" shoes he did a few years back. Cant think of a place I would wear them tho............
Cool article Condor! Nobody has slammed this car yet for having a SBC... are all the nay-sayers sleeping???
As perfectly proportioned as any sled I've seen. Breaking boundaries with taste and style. Anyone know if it will be at SEMA or GNRS? If not, get busy, promoters before it gets back to Canada.
1 vote Hard to believe someone could make a car this nice and nicely done and then yank out a beautiful Jag motor and stick in an SBC. That is kind of like maybe finally getting a beautiful girl home only to realize, well, maybe she isn't a girl after-all. That hopefully is one damn nice looking (and sounding) SBC.
LMAO, Stude Dude, you're should be making sure the right equipment's there before showing "it" where you live! Geez, bar dating 101 stuff there.
I'm not tryin' to stir anything up, but a lot of folks say the best way to make one of these Jags dependable is to swap it's engine for a small block Chev. ****** YANKS!
Cannot count how many Jag owners here have finally got a reliable car by swapping in a SBC. Maybe beautiful on paper and to look at, but in practice, they're heavy and, well, they ****.
