Fremont, what a great strip that was! I went to my first drag race there in 1964. Was out for a Sunday drive with my grandmother and heard "the be there, be there" radio commercial. Granny was a very cool old gal who had been married to an Alabama moonshiner at one time so we checked it out. Saw a top fuel dragster run a jet car! I was astonished. The sound of a blown Chrysler at full song was the most amazing thing I had ever heard ... Still is.
Trent's da man! Click HERE for The Boondocks website ... unfortunately there's no pics of the "Milner FED" ... but lots of other car pics and info.
Yeah, that is one of our stops when I did the reliablity run up here. It used to hang in the main building.
We saw it this summer on family vacation...we were in Deadwood during sturgis seeing all the sights on our way out west..imagine my suprise when I saw it sitting outside at the Boondocks diner...here is what I have...
Don, should have dropped me a line. A pal that is into 409's and AMC's lives just down the hill from there. He owuld have loved to talk Kelvinators with you and you would have dug his stuff.
Are you saying that this FED used to hang in the main building?: ... cuz' it doesn't look to be anything like the car used as Milner's Dragster during the filming of "More American Graffiti" (different chassis, different body, different everything) ... perhaps this is the car used for the promotional tours ... ???
The one time I looked at it closely showed many signs of modification, bracket racer shit etc...........don't know if it is indeed the car, they had some documentation there that said it was.
That thingy is the biggest POS I have ever seen.and the ONLY thing AGll about it is the poster in the seat. I have many pix of the real deal and there isnt one thing on that car to make it the real one.
Hemi 32 I would have to agree. Maybe this rail was in the movie just NOT Milners rail? The sign in the seat just stated it was in the movie. Here is the two photos together. To me, the frames look like they are different lengths - but I do not know much if anything about rails. Larry
The Milner car kit is the same exact plastic as the MPC Ramchargers car, which means the engine in the kit is a 426 Hemi, not the small block Chevy it should have.
That's one of the cars I wondered about. It had a 10,000 rpm 283 smallblock and would put the rear bumper on the track on take-off.
Lots of Diggers go through changes if they are raced. Usaually for racing a bracket class the frames are shortened. We owned Mark Williams Last fuel car and Tony Nancy last fuel car and they both had been modified at one time through the years. This one has seen better days. Cant believe I asked the same question..."What happened to that car" and its a couple hundred miles away....
Here's a clip of the scene where the chute on "Milner's Dragster" doesn't open: ... and a (poor quality) video clip of "Milner's Dragster" racing the "Hunt Brothers" digger:
Oddly enough I have never seen MAG. I have watched AG 100's of times since my folks first took me to the first run at the theater. Is the second one available on DVD?
Yes it is just watched it this weekend, got it for Xmas, it has AG on one side of the DVD and MAG on the other side.
I know a lot of shit can get changed on a dragster But that car is Not the Milner car first off the Milner car is not center steer , big diff. in the cage & check out how high the car sets in the rear ............and the W/B .......and no torsion bar
Good suggestion, he has a whole page devoted to the filming of MAG...the Milner dragster was the old Masters & Richter AA/FD, fitted with new paint and a blown small-block...hope you find it.
I hope to find it one of these days. I do appreciate all you guys info and input. It is nice to see everyone offering their info. I hope i can get a good lead that will find this lost treasure. Thanks, Zack
The Masters & Richter tale has been flogged to death on other boards and I talked to Ewald (WDIFL) for great lenths on how it WASNT the M&R car , He agreed but has not changed the text.
Am I the only one who watches this movie with the remote in hand to skip the other crap to watch the drag scenes? The foreign chick is smokin hot too. haha!
I hope it is where they say, because that old slingshot was the only thing in the movie worth looking at. in my view. man what a disapointment the second film was...POP.
