  1. As time goes by, I find that my tastes becoming more and more discriminating. The deeper I get into traditional culture and the more history I absorb, the less I like the more "extreme" rods and customs.

When it comes down to it, I don't have a problem with someone calling a car a rat rod or labeling a car this or that. If I like the way a car looks, then I like the way a car looks. I do, however, try to steer clear of most individuals that subscribe to this "extreme" or "rat rod" culture as many of them strike me as insincere and more concerned with "fitting-in-by-standing-out" than supporting true custom and car culture.

This brings us to my question (which seems silly after writing all that):

"Is becoming a member of another forum in order to list items for sale (even though you are not necessarily a fan of most of cars they feature) frowned upon by the H.A.M.B?

  2. I've got a nice grille from a non-HAMB friendly car that I've been dragging to swap meets for 2 years. I'm going to join a MOPAR group to flog it. What's the problem?

Then again, if you're hoping to sell traditional hot rod parts to "rat rodders" that would be frustrating, but it also falls under the category of "it's your stuff, do what you want with it".

It's probably frowned upon by that forum....I used to frequent a couple of other boards, and I always put things for sale on all of the board's cl***ifieds. Over the past couple years, I just sort of grew away from those other places, and now I don't bother with their cl***ifieds either. It seems wrong to use them and not participate on the boards at all.

I was actually banned from another forum for not participating anymore, at least that's the only reason I can think of.....not that I'm terribly concerned over it, it's their forum, they can chose who gets to be a part of it....if all you want to do there is sell your stuff, you probably won't be there long, they would consider you a spammer.

  6. I screwed up the heading on the poll.

Should be: "Is becoming a member of another forum in order to list items for sale (even though you are not necessarily a fan of most of cars they feature) frowned upon by the H.A.M.B?

    "multi-tasking" at work. Hahahahaha!

  7. I was referring more to the rat-type forums that are almost in direct conflict with what the HAMB is trying to do. Ya know?

  8. If I'm selling something, the goal is to SELL it. So, I use any means available to me to network the part or car. Any. And if another board is offended by that, they can always delete the ad. However, I participate in all boards of which I am a member

  9. I was kicked off 2 of those. One board tossed me in just a few hours because of my reputation on the other:D. They were both recommended to me by a friend, but were both extremely lame.

I am not sure about worrying about other forums but I get very tired of looking at the ad section on here and time after time seeing ads posted by newbs with less than 5
posts putting up stuff for sale .Most of the time they have broken the rules or are trying to pull something .I actually have been watching this situation for a few months now .I will look at random for stuff I like and pick something out of the blue and over half the time it is posted by a New Seller .It seens to cheapen the HAMBS
quality because of all the complaints .And Hambers are loosing out because instead of attracting new contibutors all we are doing is becoming a Craigslist for early rods and parts.I look at Jalopy Journal and see you have to have 50 posts credit to you name inorder to sell .At least you have to be some what of a cycle buff to hang around long enough to earn your way on ! My comments might have been OT for your thread but I have wanted to throw this out for awhile .Maybe people on other boards think like this about you.Perhaps if you are on other boards you do your home work and obey the rules .At least when people find out you are a Hamber our reputation stays in good standing .
Thanks for putting up with me !

I have a lot of different areas that interest me and belong to numerous forums. Most seem to hate on new members selling stuff. I can see both sides.
I don't care if someone has 1 post or 1000 if he's selling something I want.

  14. And that's another thing. I'm trying sell my Cadillac and I don't know how I would feel if it turned up somewhere sittin' on some MJ's with a Skittles logo painted on the doors.

But, money is money and whoever buys it gets to do whatever they want.

    Maybe I should conduct pre-purchase interviews.:D

I tried to get on one site (BillSkillet, or something like that) and the reply came back that I wasn't "thier kind of people". I wasn't trying to sell anything and they didn't know anything about me. I figured that either it was because of my service provider (AOL) which some sites frown on, or they checked the HAMB and don't like HAMB members. Anyone know if they would not accept people for either of those reasons? I couldn't get a response.

Seriuosly man? You speak of other people being insecure yet you are seeking approval from an internet message board about where you advertise your own parts or cars? I would be more concerned about what the other boards thought about you just using their cl***ifieds while not participating in their forums. I say if you have something to sell, advertise it where ever you can to reach a potential purchaser.

I dont see the point of talking **** about other Sites.

I'm sure there are Sites out there where people talk **** about us, but I dont see the point of that either...

You like a place/ be accepted there/ feel at home, or you dont.

No need to take your grievances of one place to another...

If you are invited to join a site and then the site turns you down because you are on another site, or won't give you a reason at all, isn't that worthy of spreading the word?

a rhetorical poll question: do you live your life, or live your life as you think others will perceive you?
