Event Coverage Judged my first and hopefully last car show

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Jun 3, 2023.

  1. My old work place had a show today. I was asked to judge.
Dang. Anyway, this shop caters to high end stuff so I’ll post the few that fit the forum.
This car didn’t have a category. But I campaigned to have it get a top 10.
I guess those are judges choice so this was mine

  2. Built from pieces and stuff the owner and friend collected through the years.
Flathead, old top loader, banjo rear.

  3. Looks like a fun project and a way to use up spares

  4. ...now that's a REAL hot rod.

  5. My pic for classic car IMG_1905.jpeg IMG_1903.jpeg IMG_1904.jpeg IMG_1902.jpeg 1928 Hudson. Not perfect but a functional survivor.

  6. This stuff was sitting in the shop storage area

  8. Good friend of mine helped assemble the 32.
He was an old school car guy. A walking encyclopedia of all things hot rod related.
He was the HAMB before I knew this place existed. I’m using parts I got from him for my merc build.

    Miss that guy a lot.

was nice to see something he helped build today.

I don’t know why, but something draws me towards that black ‘35 pickup:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Thank you for sharing!

  11. Lots of new vettes, mustangs, JDM, and European cars.
And the few I posted here.
Spent over 3 hours checking out cars and taking notes. Started out with 4 judges but the heat and sun took out 2.

I’d like to give this one bit of advice. If you see judges looking at your ride. Don’t talk to em. They got a job to do. Ya might just be hurting your chances more than helping.

I'd ride it...I'd paint it maroon and tan and sew up a brown leather saddle, but I'd ride it.

That also jumped out at me. Awesome.

  14. Seeing an Avanti makes my eyes feel good for the rest of the day!
    :D

There's no way those cars look 60 years old.

  16. Being a car guy it’s tough to judge a show. If you are a builder you look for WHAT they did. Being a Buyer Builder you look at what the spent!.

Many times when asked to judge I don’t pick the Best car but the guys car that would be the most fun and catches the eye.
Like the shiny stuff but stone chips win points.

  18. This shop is a converted Sams Club building. Huge. Heated and AC.
Storing cars is one of their services.
They’ll take care of maintenance, detail and deliver wherever ya tell em.
Even the roll back is inclosed.

So, how did your choices compare to the other remaining judge? Did you agree on anything?

  23. We got along great
Both of us were tired and hot.
it’s easy to find a consensus like that
We split up after selections and double checked picks and confirmed entry numbers.
Was a good experience but the hardest I’ve worked at a show since no longer belonging to a pro shop.

Nice batch of cars you posted.
I hate the term "best" in little one day shows that don't use actual judging sheets. To me "best" means you scored more points than the other guys in your class. I'd rather see "favorite or some other term with honest reasons as to why it was picked.
Back in the 70's in Texas one of the most prized awards at a rod run was the Vintiques of Dallas pick that was awarded an engraved pewter mug as their pick for the car they would most like to have.

I don't envy you that job in the least.
