Can anyone tell me if the wheel bearings for the 46 ford brakes will fit the A spindles? getting geared up to start the roadster project.

    Thanks
    Mike

  2. yes, i belive all bearings are the same. there is alittle difference in length between the spindles and there is alittle conflict with wire wheels and early spindles but you should be fine. there are several parts houses like job lot and sac ford as well as macs that will carry most of your parts.

  3. If I remember right, you'll need spacers, one because the diameter of the center hole in the backing plate is bigger than the shoulder on the spindle, and one to space the bearing away from the spindle. Bob Drake has these, part # X-2000.
I think the bearings and races are the same from 1928-1948.

I would say yes. I have some 36 spindles and some A spindles and they measure the same diameter for the inner bearing. 37-41 spindles have the same king pin diameter as all Ford axles from the first A to 48. The bearing O.D. may be different for certain years but i don't know for sure.

The X-2000 kit consists of 2 brittle/too thick piston rings and 2 improper-sized valve seats. I have DLX-2000 kit, which consists of flanged spacers with integral proper spacer (to make up the difference in diameter spindle vs. brake plate) and properly-sized bearing spacers that install on the spindle shaft to properly locate the inner bearing AND to provide a fixed surface for the seal to ride on. DLX kit is alot more $, but is the right
    deal...

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the good feedback.
I am aware of needing the 'hydraulic adapter kit' for the juicy-ness on the 'A' spindles. I am glad to hear the bearing are all the same.
Just cross checked with my Mac V8 catalog and they claim 28-48 use the same wheel bearings.
Not sure yet whether or not I'm going to use these drums. They are showing their age and I have a CHERRY set of buick finned drums I might use as well.
I'm sure some of you are yelling FINNED FINNED right now! lol.
Thanks guys. I'll try to get some pictures up soon. Hard to get them sized down.
