3124? Am I just being dumb again?

  4. or 2431??
He just had the plug wires in the wrong starting point.
I have been playing with Mallory MG distributors and some marine Mallory's.
It takes a little machine work but they look promising. Best of all, parts are available for them.

It really screwed up a friend when he checked the firing order on the 2up/2down. 1,3,2,4 not to mention the cam grinder.........J

3124 is the same as 1243 or 2431 or 4312.

I was really confused before i want back and checked everything.Understand i am running a modified mallory single point distributor that was made to run in fork lifts. When i made the shaft to connect to the oil pump drive it was not machined relative to the orientation of the rotor in the distributor. For some lucky reason it worked last fall when i started this used motor.I have a dual point Mg with tach drive that i need to modify and i will make sure the orientation is correct.

Where can we learn more about said chassis? Sounds neat. You don't see enough column shifters in hot rods.

B95A1414-EB45-4C1E-8B80-04CCE0E4FD31.jpeg Top pic is my flywheel. Bottom pic is what I took to the machine shop for reference. 65DB3544-B8FE-4B3B-ADC1-19DC6903A52C.png Hello fellas,

Pretty new to the HAMB, hope I’m posting this correctly. I’ve read some older threads saying there was an error in some instructions on lightening a banger flywheel? It’s got me a little worried on the flywheel I had lightened. I read in the Brierley book that you can take it down to a 11 1/16 diameter and take some material off the back side too. I took the dimensions and some pictures to a local machine shop. I’m concerned about the material he took off the back side, I feel like he took too much close to the crank? What are your thoughts? I’m thinking of building a scatter shield but I also don’t want to risk destroying my engine and tranny. Please let me know what you think thanks.

  16. Yeah too cool, nice dist drive setup.
Is that a two port rocker arm McDowell head?

Hi John: not a two port rocker arm McDowell. It's a obscure 8 Valve cross flow Model "T" head on a 1927 "T" block. Gary

Still futzing with headers . Getting closer day by day but slow. Hope do get some decent numbers when we are done.B block to go in a 32. The head was part of a deal where we had to take an original cragar along with a new Serr head , sold the original head but kept original rocker cover , kind of want it to look period to match the used look of the 32. Now we have a half price new head, all ported and cleaned up.
Definitely not my idea but my engine guys ,after lots of His research to use 348 BBC pistons , not W head But BBC bus and truck pistons to get compression up after we milled the head .080 .

Bosch China knock offs from ebay $ 37.00 each fits VW, counterclockwise rotation 20 degrees advance at the distributor. I machined them to fit 1920's Dodge 4 cyl. dist mounts. Gary

I cant help much with the Flywheel issue but Welcome to the HAMB and the banger meet!

  24. Gary,
hell, I didn't even notice the block or flywheel housing, too interested in the dist drives.
Does the shaft drive from front run at crank speed or cam speed?

Crank speed , but there is more going on. Let's say crank ( 25 t )speed is 500 rpm....cam gear ( 50 t) down to 250 rpm ... second crank gear ( 25 t) and back to 500 rpm.... the 90 degree 1920's Dodge dist housing and gears, ( 9 t ) on the shaft and ( 18 t) on dist lowers the dist speed to 250 rpm Gary DSC01629 (1024x576).jpg

  26. Gary,
That is exactly the info I was looking for. The Mod"A/B" governor housing is crank speed and so are most side drive aircraft mags. That is a very nice setup.

  27. The F.A.S.T. Time Trials at the Historic Santa Margarita Ranch scheduled for this weekend (Sat. the 18th) have been cancelled due to "The Gov" re-closing Calif. Though the quarterly F.A.S.T newsletter will no longer be published (The Mosher's couldn't find anyone to takeover the chore); Time Trials will resume after the 'Pandemic" subsides!

As a postscript (not that it matters to "Four Bangers") here's what politicians do to (in this case Motorsports) to make their fortunes "At the Public Trove",once they get control! An interesting read:

Sad news both for FAST and Laguna Seca. That tracks future has always been teetering on a precarious cliff. Back when I raced motorcycles there in the late 80's there was pressure from local residents to close it down. It would be a shame to lose this asphalt jewel.

Part of being older than dirt is the powers that be allow you to train the youngins.I've got a good one,Adrian is a natural, learns it the first time and does what he's told.Another part of the game is they look the other way when you bring something from home in to work on.So we both do our thing,he has a jeep, a Vw and a dyna harley but he always asks what I'm doing on the A..today he shows me an ad,he 's buying a 29 sport coupe banger project..corrupting the young man ? perhaps..
