More gas brazing intake manifold messery. First time trying this out. Lots of flapper wheel redo. Lots of redux. Going to build another jig and give it another(s) go. So it was leaking...the packless 'leakless' professionally built A water pump I had just installed it back on a fresh engine build and had intermittent noises. I had tried to lube it in the past and again before I pulled it down. I usually build my own water pumps but inherited this one included with the purchase of other items ...this is what I found upon dis***embly
The front bearing (fan end) is a slip fit....the rear one (impeller end) is a needle bearing that there is no provision for grease....there is also shaft erosion where the lip seals ride on the stainless steel shaft....

 

Wonder what made that sealed bearing wear the front end of the shaft like that? Was it a loose fit when built?

I'd seen the SCTA listing for pre-entries and see they had you listed for F/GMR so not as a V4 or V4F and no listing under V4/GL. Maybe a misprint?

Yes, we had the GMR entered after a shake down run st ElMirage
We will be bringing 2 cars including the 90 V4 GL

 

...it is slip (slop) fit, not interference fit.
the 1623 bearing has a .6250" ID and the shaft measures .6245" where it isn't fretted
go figure....

On a deep dive for history, I'm looking into McDowell Racing Equipment. Is there any correlation between Johnny McDowell and Ray J. McDowell?

 

i got some parts gathered, regarding threads on the hamb do you *have* to have a body and frame to start a build thread or is it alright if it starts off with the parts leading up to aquiring a body and frame?

 

Must be somethin in the air, I’ve been busy makin spare brackets too. Here’s the original up against the 2 new ones. May have been a few machine hours involved…

 

those are really nice!! I’m aiming for something a bit more than bent metal, but not too much!

Still here, just driving the "death trap,no front brakes,dangerous machine" when i can.
the Montana boys stopped and said hi, we went out to get a drink.
Dad(not mine)got to drive the 19,I drove the 27.

 

Absolute **** show with the spring shop here in town. They broke three leaves trying to de-arch springs. Then happily didn’t charge me $1000 they quoted Drove up to Phoenix found a great spring shop, but my memory was bad and I had asked for too much. So I’m going to have to pull them off and go back up one inch . The rear U bolts have enough thread for the addition of a 1 inch spacer To lower the rear axle. With the front end re-re-arched it’ll be about an inch lower in the nose by the time I sit and it’ll be just about level.

other than that’s the non-***y stuff like sitting there for a couple hours with a dye cleaning up all the threads on the U-bolt so everything goes back together nicer.

Now to play with the body and the steering. I am much happier with the fire wall detail.
