Mine is noisy on and off load, I suspect the gears were worn to suit the old bearings, the new bearings would, I suspect change the contact area of the teeth perhaps causing the noise.

could it be possible for the selectors to be pushing on the gears ?
i would have thought if the bearings made 1st and 2nd gears noisy then it would make 3rd gear noisy also
im no banger expert so im more than likely wrong hahaaa

Anyone ever see one of these before? I got this am at my local swap for 3 bucks. Looks to be NOS. Its 6 volt + ground. I'm going to try it on my banger tomorrow. The bakelite case sure looks nice! TK

Worked all day sorting out the turn signals and brake lights, aimed the headlights and set the timing. Also discovered that oil drain plugs tend to work loose! That was a good catch before catastrophic failure.

Any suggestions on the drain plug? I'm thinking silicone since it will only get an annual change anyway.

I now have a very well running and somewhat safer car. WOO-HOO (imagine me doing the "happy dance").

Here's another photo to help you guys to ID the chassis we brought.

Hint it's for one of Mrs B's collection

Doug you already know.... no fair don't tell

How could it be one off chassis if we already got one? OK the body we have is the only one known but there are a few chassis' out there.

OIL PLUG! Take out the plug drain the oil into a clean pan. Go to NAPA and get a 'REPAIR' an OVERSIZE PLUG!!

Put plug in pan ....... Take out again and clean threads with a magnet!

Put plug in and put old old in if your cheap. Now change your oil every 6 months or you will loose the engine far sooner than you should.....

  18. Drain plugs don't "work" loose if tightened properly and proper copper washer/gasket is used. If the threads are worn in the pan then,as Bluto stated, oversize plugs are available from "A" part houses.

You can clean everything ...... put two small washers in a vice and smack'em with a BFH so they bend in the middle ....then JB Weld the washers one to pan and one to the drain plug. From there it's easy to safety wire the drain plug ..... and if you wire it negitive it's easy to find!!

BUT IF IT's worked loose on its own the threads are shot.... get a repair plug or keep your AAA card close

By 1937 the 'Henweigh' (joke??)was so old that no one was using it.

And the chassis in the photo is earlier than 1937

Perhaps your thinking of a date you had with some larger farm animal

    Do you own a Nomad?

The engine is very similar to a Brough Superior 4,:D:D:D but that chassis and diff don't even look like the donor for the Brough , it has more than three wheel studs per wheel and the chassis is different ,mostly at the rear.
I would guess at American Austin ( Bantam) but I thought they were later than the 20s.
Maybe a slightly bigger than "7" Austin???

Yeah I noticed that , but we had RHD American cars in New Zealand and also in Canada and Australia back in the 20s and 30s....... also South Africa and Japan and a few other places .:D:D
The first BMW models (BMW Dixi) were licensed Austin 7s, as were the original American Austins . In France they were made and sold as Rosengarts . In Japan Nissan also used the 7 design as the basis for their cars.

So Austin motor, and diff, at least ? No?:rolleyes:
    SS? Lotus Mk1 :cool::cool::cool:?

I was thinking Austin as well. The prop / torque tube looks about right but the back suspension isn't right for a 7. Austin Ruby? I've seen that front end on something before as well. Just... can't... quite... put... finger... on... it... :D

Edit: I reckon I've got it. But I'm going to keep quiet so Bluto can let on :D

I had a '31 American Austin. Long time ago. I don't remember the frame looking like the picture. Might of though. Had a Crager for it when I went in the Army. When I came home the Cragar was gone. Here is how it ended up.
