Are you running a B or A block and rear end ratio and tire size ?

Well, 'what's new in banger', may just be a Crower crank and (I think) what may be Cunningham rods. Look at the rod picture. The small end is not model A/B size (1" pin), but smaller !
Anyone can say if these ARE Cunningham, and if so, what pin size fits this rod ? 001.JPG

  3. more than likely the pins are Ø.927, common Chevy. and yes, look like cunningham.
Is this for Tod's new block or did we locate a Donovan?

    Hey Steve,
Are you satisfied with gear ratios of you 5 speed ? If so, what is it out of and what trans/part number to look for when searching for such ?
Where did you purchase 1.08, 3.27 QC gears ?

    Hey John,
What ? Are you thinking alum to iron isn't good or alum to alum is better ?
Ok, so what do you envision as a head that would do the job of making POWER !

note: I know that you don't[ like the riley 4 port, as you have said as much, and that's ok too !

It is almost a crime to build that engine with anything but a flat head. IMHO. OHV would waste all of the work redesigning the porting.

A blown flathead set up would be even better.

    But I'm weird.

  10. Thanks Dan, you hit the nail on the head.
Flatheads suffer in the 6 port configuration, 2up/2dn cranks are expensive.
That configuration will give a flathead really good performance and put a hurting on most OHV's. IMG_0396.JPG

  15. Yes, no welding, solid alum fill. A very hot day of my life.
With my billet head ran 99+ for flying mile at Bonneville in a '30 coupe.
One pass and the valves need lapping, that is dedication.................or insanity.

Don't know if this method attached the pic, but did you create the head in this post? Is it mainly for Bonneville racing? Is it a 2 piece head? If so, are the 2 pieces attached with bolts/screws of some liquid agent?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hey Dan...banger criminal here..lol !
Well, Donovan set up this for OHV use (F head). So, work already done for that. However, that can be changed back with some work, if wanted.
Speaking of Tod, the first cast iron flathead made in modern age is 8:1, and is a beauty ! I just might get around to 'experimenting' with that set up ....if I'm not satisfied with the original Rileys Racing 4-port and carb setup. Realizing the benefits of alum to alum , I can try that combo also (Riley 4-port of course), a 'Fricken' clone, eh ! If you have to ask and don't know Norman Frick , he was an extraordinary OHV creator/BANGER engine man !! 032.JPG

    Hey Steve,
    Thanks !
I'd heard that the 'best' to use the 4x4 version, have you ever heard that. I guess that it's to do with gear ratios better suit a As needs ??

I used the 4x4 trans and retained the torque tube. The first two gears are a bit low but it isn’t too bad. I read a HAMB thread on T-5 tech and you can use parts from S-10, Jeep, Astro van and mustang transmissions and maximize you OD ratio and get the gear spacing more even I don’t know the specifics. A lot of the borg-Warner non WC stuff is interchangeable. It is something I need to research more and see what parts I need to find.
