The photo of the "Higgins" boat with the front door dropped down is very profound to me. It makes me think of all the young boys on those boats that six months before this day, were trying to get the nerve up to ask some young girl to a dance. And now they were being asked to jump into the water and make their way to the shore-line while their buddies were being cut in two by horrific machine gun, mortar and artillary fire. That is the definition of pure courage. The are not only referred to as "The Greatest Generation", they proved they are on that day! God Bless all of them!

  2. Ask someone where they were 65 years ago.
My Dad has a friend in FLA that towed Gliders on D-Day.
Ask them all about it, because they might not be here tomorrow.

They are without a doubt, "The Greatest Generation"......The Great Depression leading to the War. Dropping everything at home, with nothing but uncertainty ahead.....and as the war progressed, younger and younger as they were inducted and sent into battle. A 20-21 year old aircraft commander in charge of a B-17 along with 9 other 20 year olds. Dodging fighters, flak, and still making it to the target and hopefully returning. Repeat for 20, then 25 then 40 then 50 missions. How many 20 somethings can you visualize in today's world doing this (short of the current group of warriors dealing with the Iraq/Iran/Afghanistan situations). And these were the tip of the armed forces iceburg......ground pounders in the slop and muck on some Pacific island, in a foxhole with the temperature way below zero in the Battle of the Bulge.

Without a doubt, we all an unrepayable debt to these guys and gals who fought and died. Thank a vet......any vet from WW2 through the current group. We can do and say pretty much what we want thanks to their sacrifices. Thank you......

We Americans have been blessed with brave men and women who have protected us from our enemies from our beginnings to today. Thank you WW11 veterans. By the way I was born the day before DDAY on June 5 1944.
