Dan, unfortunately we lost "Jungle" Jim Liberman to a non-racing related auto accident back in 1977... "Jungle" Pam is still with us, and she can occasionally be seen at nostalgia races and events-- Pam is doing well, she's a real sweetheart and likes connecting with her public-- She's very personable and retains a healthy at***ude about all this nostalgia hype & hoopla... Pam usually attends E'Town's NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS-- I've seen her at this event several times-- Pam is a lovely and gracious gal who is a role model for all us women in the drag racing world... It's also worth noting that there's several "Jungle Jim" tribute cars that make the rounds at various nostalgia oriented events-- Although the folks who campaign these cars are often badgered by cantankerous geezers 'cause they're not the "real thing", it's my opinion they still serve a purpose, and remind folks of the "Jungle" legacy, I mean, sure, I am well aware that it's not the same as if we still had "Jungle" Jim Liberman with us, but at least it helps keep his memory alive... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...
Damn, that brought back some great memorys, they were one hell of a team and both new how to get your total attention, there for a few moments I was 20 yrs old and bullet proof.
Thanks for the reply & update Doc. It's a shame about Jim. Nice to know Pam's still oput there, & doing well. Thanks for the great post!
Great video. I saw them once. They didn't hit the west cost very often. I think Jim drove the Brutus GTO before becoming Jungle? I am surprised he never backed over Pam. He was famous for doing the long burnouts and backing up at 100 mph. I met his son Randy back in the early 1990's. He worked at a local fab shop. He and his mom lived in Springfield at that time.
She is also a member of the H.A.M.B. and has been known to post to the following thread from time to time. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=233012&highlight=jungle+pam
I ran into Wayne Bushey at the Geezers at the Grove event two years ago and he said he was restoring one of Jungle Jim's original Novas. Wayne is the president of National Nostalgic Nova located off of US 30 in Pa. I should call and see its progress.
