Okay, how do you get the transmission and torque tube out of a 49 Chevy that had a ****bolt 216 engine and three speed ******???? The trans is sitting on the crossmember, and I took out the four adapter ring thingy bolts in back of the trans like DirtyT said...but it only moves back an inch or so until it hits the parking brake *********** linkage that is a permanent part of the torque tube. (There's a nut of some sort on the *********** linkage, but it spins the whole stud or whatever, and you'd need an oil rig to drill through the roof, seat, floor and top of the trans to get a tool on whatever is on top spinning below the trans. Don't live in Texas unfortunately!) I can't see any u-joint in there...just a greasy bowl shaped thing? If I hook a tow strap to the front of the trans and go for a FULL PULL with a buddy's 4x4 will it rip that ***** outta there? (How strong can all that **** BE??) I wish whoever thought up closed drives was still alive, so I could beat 'em to death with a torque tube!
Parking brake *********** linkage has to go, drop down out of the way. Loosen the nut on the end of the bell (on the shaft, toward the rearend). slide the bell back to expose the u-joint. Crawl out from under car to remove puddle of 90w oil from your chest. Take hammer and screwdriver and beat the **** out of the little factory locks on the 3/8's bolts holding the ujoint to the trans. Undo the u-joint, and rip the trans out of the way. Undo the square ubolts on the rearend swivel ***embly. Now the whole driveshaft/rear combo can be drug out and sold for s****. Brian
