  1. if we don't crush 'em, where will the chinese get the raw materials necessary to produce all of the toxic lead-based toys that america needs so baddly?

you're right about the climate; and those nice insulating layers of pine needles don't go far to preserving sheet metal either. i've been by there dozens of times and wondered about those cars. there was another ancient burial ground right outside Summerville on hwy 78 that the owner cleaned out last year. crusher running all day long, nobody saving shit. the biggest salvage yard in the area (Blue and Gold) went on a crushing spree a few years back and cleaned out hundreds of OLD cars. the local LKQ pick and pull has some neat old stuff come in sometimes but it's got 30 days from entrance to crush; word can't travel fast enough AND the guys behind the counter don't care what the cars are, they just crush it after 30 days.
there's a guy outside Elko SC i think his name is Rodgers he has a HUGE yard full of OLD Fords and other stuff and he sells every day. usually has a dozen or so nice project car wannabes up by the Hwy at his shop. ya gotta stay away from the coastal area to get solid tin.

I realize this is an old post but there was a Road Runner in there with the air grabber boxes still bolted to the hood, at least a couple of 68-70 Chargers, 55 and 57 Chevys, a '57 Ford convertible, ect.

Granted, I'm sure all of this shit is gone now, but there was way tons of good useable parts in that yard worth much more than the scrap price. Fuck the bodies, nobody wants to fix rusty stuff it seems. But all the parts that went were worth a fortune. It really is sad.

Surprisingly, some of it is still there according to my buddy. I will check on it. The good stuff was saved by a lot of people. My buddy who was there taking pics said when you swept off the pine needles, that was the best part of the car. Maybe the lack of air slowed down the rot?

i got stuck attending a trade show with a salesman from work once and outside Atlanta, actually still in SC, there was a huge field on a hillside that was covered with older cars in tall grass but JACKASS driving the car would not stop even for 10 freaking minutes so i could scope out the name, etc of the place. he was more interested in getting to the hotel so he could clean out the mini-bar. fucking jerk. i never did find out what that place was, we came back to town a different route. did i mention he was a fucking jerk?

there's a lot of old cars in the area right off I-26 west of Columbia if you have time to ride around looking for them. lots of older used car lots with "back-row" cars.... the kind i used to buy!

I went down by Houston to look at a wagon it was not worth saving the rust was so bad .The man said he had 350 to 450 cars and trucks on his property trees grown up threw the trunks and shit like that .He wanted big money for his rotten shit .In my opinion that's why they stay and rot not worth the money and we cry when they are crushed but do you want to pay 3 or 4 grand for a rotted out hull of a vehicle?

I remember seeing these years back when I was visiting friends who were based on Paris Island. They were too far gone.
