funny enough, with how tight the whole car is, I actually have room for a crossover tube if I wanted to leave the radiator alone, but I also wanna see if he can get rid of the trans cooler bosses... and take that goofy fake top neck off.
Uh uh, that next stays and gets a winged moto meter in top. You KNOW you want one! LOL Congrats on the score!
haha if it was real, I would leave it, but since its not, It's going away. I also have a big radiator cap on the tamale wagon, I don't need two of them. lol
I have a fake radiator cap on my shell haha But also had stock A shell with a provision for a filler tube, so rather than buy a new shell, I made a fakie. LOL Score on the radiator!! Gordy
ANNNNNNND we're back! I have a goal to get this thing running before I get my issue of DICE magazine. so we start with some metal origami. After much beating with hammers and finding anything I could use to move the metal around, I had something that looked like a crossmember. I made it a little wider so it would fit the rubber mounts that I picked up from speedway. I then took and cut them up. It's good and snug. So once I got to this point I had to dig my car out from the other side of the shop, and put it in the hole where the TwoBitT was. Boy I love this car. I started to try and cut the front crossmember out without removing the front end, but when i started up the plasma cutter it lit the grass that was stuffed under the springs on fire. so after a regroup, and more work, I took off the whole front end. You can see part of the pile of grass on the left. With the suspension out of the way, I could really get to cutting. I kept trimming until the front crossmember started to fit. I left some little pieces of the old crossmember so I could locate the new one better. And I also started making filler plates for the rest of the frame. fits like a glove. and test fit with the whole shebang. I did have the forethought to weld the nuts for the radiator mount springs into the framerails. Hopefully tonight i'll have the chance to try and fit the fan shroud and fans into the mix. Getting closer! ALSO! Go order for your copy of DICE magazine 107! Its got an article put together by our own @J.Ukrop , about my little T. Life long dream to see one of the cars I built in a magazine. Thanks to everyone who made it possible. Thanks @Kid Rocker for thinking my car was worthy to be in your magazine ..
Burned the midnight oil last night and finished up the welding. and then a terrible coat of paint with an old can of flat black, Tonight I should get it buttoned up and start re-fitting the fan setup. oh, and If you've already ordered the newest DICE magazine, It should be shipping soon! Sneak peek..... Beatin' on it! Seriously, go get one! .
For those like myself who have no good bookstore nearby, here's the source. https://www.dicemagazine.com/store/p/dice-issue-107
Not sure any magazine letting you grace its pages is safe for a home with children! I hope it’s shipped discreetly so my neighbors don’t know lol congrats ya weirdo
where did I leave off? oh yeah. torn down. luckily it was relatively easy to stick it back together, the fan mount/shroud only needed some mild modifications to work, and it turned out quite nicely. cleaned and ready to go. Friday night I got home from work and tore right into bleeding the cooling system. I had not changed anything on the car other than the cooling system, but I was still a little surprised when after a pump of the foot feed, and a turn of the key, it fired right up, with no hesitation. After burping some huge pockets of air, I finally got it to chill out, and sit there at 170 (with fans) while I cleaned the shop. only one thing left to do, Drive. boy I love driving this thing. then today, I drove it to get donuts in the morning, then later, to the parts store, and in the afternoon I went out to a buddies house 20 miles away. didn't miss a beat, and stayed cool the whole time. Success! I even got to knock out some gravel driving to round it out. Overwhelming success on all levels. I'm ready for a fun summer. maybe I'll clean the rest of the car now. ..
Great job! I like the rolling numbers on the odometer adding up! What is the goal for miles this year? 60 Special
Don't worry, we'll get there. Don't have a goal for miles, but I should break 20k pretty easy with the trips I have already planned.
Sunday afternoon I got out and went to Jimmy flowers funeral, and since it was pretty chilly, I threw the top on. once it was warmed up, it cruised right along. it was about 2 hours drive to Lawrence KS I was there a little early, so I made a stop at a place i've always wanted to take pictures. The tee pees! Then I went and met up with everyone, and said farewell. it was good to see everyone, despite the circumstances. Me and @Inked Monkey closed out the parking lot. it was an uneventful drive home, with a short stop to see my buddy Brad's new roadster project. another 250 miles down. ready for summer. .
Its been a couple weeks, I've been enjoying the heck out of having my car back on the road. Night drives, I've driven it to work a few times, Last Friday I even took to wife out for dinner with friends in it. I love her. she's a good sport with my crazy vehicles. and she surprised me by sneaking out one of the magazines I got from DICE, and had my buddy build frames for it! Go get you one if you haven't! our own @J.Ukrop did an awesome job on the article. .
Well It was time for a good little roadtrip. As soon as I learned that I didn't have to work on Saturday, I started plotting to drive to Oklahoma. the goal was the Stray Kat 500, And I figured I needed to get out early. so after a 3:30 alarm, I was out the door just after 4:00 am At 38 degrees, it was a chilling experience, even with layers. I also decided to go topless, for reasons you'll see later. I made a stop in Atchison to drain the coffee from my system, and then in Topeka to top off the tank with Gas (and me with more coffee) Topeka traffic sucked. I think they had about every major road blocked in some way by a bridge or road project. Without much more issue I made my way southward to Lyndon, where I stopped to drain the coffee again. after that it was pretty sooth sailing the rest of the way south. And around 10 I rolled into the event, drove through the spectator gate, and parked next to the registration table. I was welcomed by @guthriesmith , @Dan Hay, @winduptoy and also got to meet @trevorsworth I also saw some guy with a funny mustache @drdave and hung out for awhile with @bchrismer and @straykatkustoms , among many others. But as with all things, It had to come to an end. Annnnnnnnd I made it about 5 blocks. I was stopped at the stoplight you see in the background, and when I went to let my foot of the clutch, the pin the holds the clutch linkage together exited stage left, and dropped the pedal to the floor, engaging the clutch, almost stalling the car. I was able to lug it off the road and spin it into this gravel circle drive, and called @travisfromkansas , who sent his wife to escort me to the local parts store. After I picked up the pivot block off the roadway, and got the new pin, I stuck it all back together, and headed off down the road. Did I mention I picked up a passenger? thanks to @guthriesmith I took a pit stop in Topeka for gas, and headed out for home, stopping again in Atchison to once again don my winter coat. It was cold, but I got home at 9:30 pm. About 600 miles once you add up the multiple detours I took for Topeka construction. I had a great day with loads of good people. A true success. .
Good stuff, that pin came out last year also if I’m not mistaken? Glad you made it home safe, I hit some construction/closure on i70 this week that is supposed to last three YEARS. Suffice to say I ain’t gonna be seen on that side of town for a long time lol
WAIT there's More?? I pulled the car out early the next morning and drove to church, where a buddy stopped me and asked if I would give him a ride in my hot rod. of course I obliged. here his wife caught us loading into the roadster. He was grinning the whole way. After lunch I parked in the grass and opened the garage doors, pulling things out to start the deep clean for my open house. The beautiful day didn't go unnoticed, and I had multiple people stop by and say hello. I ended the day off by a night drive to the store for some lunch supplies for the week. A calm end to a hectic but good weekend. Who else is going to the Speedway Motors/WheelHub event in two weeks? .
Glad we could help, my car was kinda stuck in place at the moment and her car was easy to get to! She was thrilled to be able to help you get on your way.
I don't know how I've missed this thread for so long?!!? Got some homework to do tonight catching up. Hope I didn't leave too much drool on her at the Stray Kat... sucks about the clutch but you got her going again!!
I just had to laugh when @Tim texted me that you were headed south and should be arriving in a little bit. Was not surprised at all to see you come in the wrong way and power park at the registration table. LOL So good to see you and sorry for the bit of trouble. Glad it was easy and you were back on the road. Picture of Joey unable to even glance in the direction of my car with a billet steering wheel.... LOL
Well, sorry about the clutch linkage issue but glad Travis’s wife could help out! And, glad you made it home safe. Good seeing you as always! I expect pics of that axle in something soon.
haha I think it is the one that did it last year. I really need to re-engineer the linkage, cause I could also stand to make it a little easier. thanks for the kind words. Lol, we had a good time confusing the heck out of the o'reilys clerk. haha don't feel bad, lots of people miss it. you coming to the roc in october? thanks for the short ride, its a nice little rig you've got there. can't wait to see it with less street rod parts. thanks for the axle man. its gonna look good on something. . . .
I think we're gonna try to make Lead Ain't Dead but I'm not sure about the Roc. I'd hate to miss it but it's tough to get away from the shop.
