My fatherinlaw just bought 3 cl***ic cars at the Me*** auction in ky . After all are home and the ***les stove he goes to the dmv to register them with historical plates but they didn't give him any 10 day stickers for the inspection . He later called the dmv and was told he didn't have to have an inspection done. He also called the state troopers and asked them and was told ( I'm retiring in 13 days I wouldn't write you a ticket!.....) so can anyone tell me for sure... I believe he still has to get a safety inspection. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If he is gonna drive them,he has to have the inspection sticker on the windshield next to the registration sticker. If you dont have either one you will get a ticket for sure. The cop will be just doing his job and doesnt care what the DMV said because you HAVE to have both stickers. Try and call the DMV directly in Albany.OR go back to your local DMV and ask to talk to a supervisor.I bet you will get a different answer.
I have historical plates on two of my cars and yes EVERY car in New York State must have an inspection sticker. The car also must be inspected every year. Bring the car to a local shop that is state qualified to give inspections and get a sticker before you get a citation.
I'm retired from the New York State Police and can tell you that he definitely needs to have the car inspected. It is just a safety inspection and does not involve the computer hookup to DMV,but it does generate a sticker that is required to be on the windshield.A vehicle w/o the sticker is a big red flag to law enforcement.
