I bought this 41 Chev truck last summer and have been building on it thru the winter. It was an unroad worthy rat rod that had never actually been on the road. I know a TRUE rat rod is rusty and tossed together but my idea of rat rod as I remember was not what they are today. We didn't have any money for chrome or shiny paint. But you made it look as good as you could. This truck is a ROAD RAT and will go across the country! The typical SHOW RAT of today - you couldn't drive across town. So here is mine! - - - - - Enjoy!!!!!!!!
looks kool.back bumper no,reminds me of the 80's.what are you going to use up front to fill the mouth.
The rear bumper is a 79 El Camino cut down to fit the step box. The grille - I'm not sure yet, maybe some pref metal like on the newer GMC yukons, Not sure any ideas?
It's my idea of a rat. It has an Olds 88 ch***is (shortened) so its a real cussy ride. Stock 350 Rocket motor, sectioned cab 3" chopped 4", a 58 Ford box and fenders. Thanks!
I like your truck, are you going to run the hood? How about floating horizontal s.s. bars in the grill?
You are probably going to get some grief about the rat rod stuff. The R word really seems to ruffle some feathers round here. Your truck doesn't look rat at all to me, just a budget friendly build and it turned out pretty freaking cool! I vote for no grill bars just some mesh painted black to cover up the radiator. -ya gotta ditch that diamond plate though..
It wouldn't be the first time to ruffle feathers. They'll get over it. Did you see the pictures (BEFORE), it was ratty. Your probably right though, it's not a rat by todays standards. But in the 60's it would have been called a jalopy. You must be really anti diamond plate! Thanks for the comments.
I like it, what is the grille opening from? I can't place it, but it actually looks right in there. A drawer pull grille insert or something would really give it a 60's show rod look. I have to agree that the back bumper and the diamond plate look awful on a truck that you've done a very nice job on otherwise. A tailgate and a rolled pan with some 60's era tail lights would really finish this off nicely.
The grille surround is 60 Chrysler. I like the El Camino bumper! The diamond plate will be covered when I get a tail gate.
looks more "rat rod" now, then it did when it was rusty. some people will get what im saying, some others wont. im not going to try to explain it...
