For those of you who don't know Charlie, he is an old school guy that raced nostaga SS (The Bounty Hunter sits in his garage), he was an early organizer of that form of racing, promoted events and devoted all his spare time to the preservation of traditional race cars and the people that made the sport so great. 2 years ago Charlie suffered a stroke, never again will he be able to drive his car or even work on it. While i was in Bowlin Green this spring i told Charlies story to Tom Hoover and the Ramchargers, they grabbed one of their tee shirts and all the surviving members signed it 'To Charlie' as a token of respect. I have had that tee shirt since and never told Charlie of it, i was waiting for the right time to give it to him. Some of you are aware of a Nostalga race event at Manassas Speedway this past weekend, part of the activities the Gore family was honoring many of the racers that have raced there over the years and i contacted them about Charlie, they were delighted as they had planned to give Charlie an award themselves. The tee shirt was mounted in a presentation case and on the back was written the signatories, date and circumstances of the tee shirt. When i took Charlie to the main gate they had a golf cart waiting to take him to the award ceremonies. The award was placed on a table waiting to be given to Charlie. Somebody took the award off the table. We hope it is error and that the people who have it return to its' rightful owner. If any of you wish to share a bit of simpathy with Charlie his email is c.c.fishback@usa.net
wow, that sucks. I doubt it was done in error but hopefully the person will have an ounce of decency and return it.
Ryan and other HAMB uppers this needs a Sticker so it can stay on top! OJ: See you had your hands full on Sunday. Hope you guys find the award. Jay
Good news!! Gary Gore from ODS just emailed me and they found the presentation. Gary said that he is personally taking it to Charlie this afternoon and will put it in his hands. The award was never really 'lost', somebody realized what it was and took it inside for safe keeping and none of the people outside were aware of it. It was a bit active outside to be sure. Alls well that ends well. Thanks, oj
