Another goofy question, what do you use to tighten lug nuts on these rims? Short socket with universal barely makes it.

I didn't try a simple lug wrench. Glad to see more building going on. My first and don't know what the hell I'm doing.

Do you guys think I should weld box tubing behind the center crossmember that I almost notched in half? I feel I should do something there.

    Dan,
You took a nice chunk out of that cross member. I would definitely stiffen that back up. While you are at it now would be a perfect time to add some boxing to the frame rails. I know you are running a banger but those frames were originally designed to flex anyhow. Just a thought.

Yes, those are my thoughts also. In the pics I have mocked up using the flex motor mounts. I am thinking of going back to the solid originals. The solids have to stiffen it up some also. Puts strain on the flywheel housing though. Lots of them are cracked.

I ordered a set of the boxing pieces. I figured for $150 it will help. I wont use all but it will be worth it. I figure it should give me good easy welding practice.

You mentioned that a lot of bell housings/flywheel housings are cracked. One reason is because people do not use the correct gasket and shims behind the upper housing to the block . They crack when the bolts are tightened , because the gorilla on the spanner tries to close up the gap. Or if the gap is not shimmed they break when you go over a large bump.
You need to make a dial indicator off the crank to make sure the face of the flywheel housing is square and true to the crank, and again when the flywheel is installed.

Looks like great progress dmdeaton! The body cleaned up very nicely!

Did you build the engine or have it done? What are the specs on it?

Also, could you post the info for the gentleman in KY you mentioned doing the T5 plates & conversion, please?

    Thanks guys,
The engine is a old rebuilt beater I bought from a hot rod part out. It ran when I bought it, brought it home and dis***embled it for inspection. Bored 60 and clean inside. Changed all gaskets, Stipes 340 cam, added modern valve set with new springs. Jim Brierley head, Scalded Dog intake, and a Stromberg 97. This is my first A engine to play with. I have a B block at the machine shop having all the goodies done to it. If this thing runs good, I may have to find another project for next winter to put it in.

He is not a hot rod guy, but he knows transmissions. Has a trans shop for his real life. Not too much a computer guy either. He sets up his tables at mostly Model A club meets.

Fuel tank install was a *****. Imho the worse task so far on the build. A little sloppy in the right corner, but turned out decent. Now I can get a lot done around the tank that I have been waiting to do. And......maybe start this beast up!

Thanks for the thread, looks great. Very informative and inspiring, I would like to build an A Fordor as well. I am just learning about A’s. I find it hard to grasp something unless it is sitting right there in front of me, so these threads are helping.

(I have the same Rikon band saw and recognize all of the Jet, Powermatic, Oneida, Dewault equipment in the background. I am a furniture maker by trade. If you were also able to finish your boat in the past few months as well, that would be incredible)

I Haven't posted in a while, so here is a quick update. I am knee deep in the wiring and almost ready to fire the engine up. Picked out color for seats today and it is going to Mikey Brown's place in a few weeks to get the interior done. He is in Indiana and does a bang up job. I can see light at the end of the tunnel!!
