Just Another Pontiac Junky....from Texas

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by onetalltexan, Jun 5, 2007.

  1. The screen name is kind of far out, maybe I'll tell that story someday. I've been sneaking around and reading for a while on the H.A.M.B. so here's the intro...
Grew up in Texas, and there are still tons of old cars here. I've been messing around with vintage metal for 15 plus years. The first was my dad's 52 Mercedes 170vb (Same bodystyle as pre WWII '38 model).
I was hooked young, only I got bit by the dreaded Pontiac in 1992. It was this long buck toothed chieftain that got me first. I guess it was all down hill from there, cause then a Starchief followed me home. Almost bought a '55 Safari, but the folks said no. (An ex girlfriend still has it, wonder why I was with her?!)
I never gave too much cash for a car, bought my 55 Pontiac Chieftain (all original, and solid) for $800. Bought my 55 Starchief in highschool for $1100. All my buds had goats and firebirds (from the 60's-70's) so that made me the oddball with a pair of 55's.
I started hunting the speed equipment for Pontiacs along time ago. The sad thing is that chevy grew on trees and I hit many a dead end in my quest. The internet was not even in my vocabulary at that time, but I read every book and magazine I could. I even had the highschool library add HotRod, Rod and Custom, and Hemmings to the selection, what a nice librarian. Rebuilt my first 287 in 1994 and learned the outs (out of production, out of stock, out of luck) so I picked up the traditional ways and used anything that could be shaved, modified, and tweaked to fit. I ran the hell out of that 287 and even surprised myself a couple of times. My opinion is if you have a car then fix it, drive it, and if you tear it up...fix it again.
So here we are.... none of those I had one of those back in the day stories....still got'em, never sold 'em. I married into a family that digs muscle cars like chevelle ss and goats, so here I am still the odd man out, with two '55s.
I just moved down to South Texas, guess I didn't have enough rust in my life. I took quite a hit with the move, the '55 four barrel intake got stolen from the Starchief. I sure hope that the old car and hot rod God's put the voodoo on whomever stole it. (Hell, I hope it shatters in two and burns the damn car up.) So that's it, just another Pontiac Junky...I'll quit when I kick the addiction.

    Welcome, I have 2 55 Pontiacs as well. Plus I just got a 41.

One 55 is a parts car but I put in a 66 389 in the other and fixing it up.
