My truck originally had a 235 six cylinder. The block was cracked from one end to the other when I bought it. Someone left water in the block over the winter. I replaced it 7 years ago with a 261 6 bolted to the original 3 speed and original rear end. I drove it like that for a few years but now I have decided to step up to a V-8 and automatic.

I purchased a never rebuilt 327 out of a '65 canadian Pontiac Pariesienne with about 150 Thousand miles on it. ( Canadian Pontiacs where built on a Chevy frame with Chevy drivetrain )

I am planning on rebuilding it but I was wondering if anyone can tell me any more about the original specs on the engine. What kind of horsepower did these put out stock?

    Casting Number: 3858180
    Date Stamp: G17 64
    Front Pad Stamping: 85 5620570
    Heads: 3782461
    Behind the timing cover: 810 - 180 and B T. G7

My plans are to do a basically stock rebuilt then dress the engine to look like it came out of a 64 Vette, Finned Corvette Valve Covers and 64 Corvette Air Cleaner.

  2. cast in 1964 and those are the double hump heads

Sounds like a good, half way worn out. You could get another 100k miles out of it no problem. SBC

If you take it to a shop, make sure you get the same block/heads/crank back!!! They'll play dumb & ask you for the numbers, so take notes, take pix

  4. Depends on its current condition, I have seen 'em with well over 250K and some with 75K both worn slap out.

    59Chev,
Here is something for you to read. Just for chits'n'giggles.
