Wonder why that is?:D The first thing, that I would change, would be those dang valve covers. Fins, man! FINS!

  2. Don't change one thing on it for now. Drive it a while, shake it out and fix what gives you a problem(s) as you pile on the miles on her.
I like the looks just the way it is.
The contrasting grill shell and firewall lend a nice contrast to it.

Make it yours, not everybody else's.

Nice 1st rod with the basic elements to make your own. Drive it through the changes and have fun. Better than most people have to start with.

Nice hot rod, especially for your first......absolutely drive it and enjoy, take your time to decide exactly what you want it to be. The essence of hot rodding is to build what you like, not what everyone else wants.

Congrats, and welcome. Just drive it. The last owner made the mistake of tinkering with it for too long. 10 years and 85 miles? Yeah, just get in and drive it! Summers up here are short. Enjoy it!!!

You have got to be kidding, that's a great car just the way it sits! It all works for the style the builder wanted.
Be careful what you change or it could look confused. It aint broke.

  10. What does it feel like to buy a drivable rod? LOL I always buy a big pile of parts and start throwing away the stuff that doesn't look like the picture in my head.
Seriously, its like a woman, drive her and get to know her before you start making changes. She certainly isn't so hideous that you can't be seen driving her like she is.

That is really a very nice car, you did well. We all want to make changes when we get one, just to make it our own and reflect our personal tastes, so here are my suggestions of what I would do:

    1) Lay the windshield back a little.
    2) Big and little tires would help the overall look IMO, and some steel wheels and caps would make it look older.
    3) Engines look lonely with only one carb on top, a dual quad intake with some non purple air cleaners would look great.
    4) Some finned valve covers would look less street roddy and more hot roddy.
    5) Love the white firewall but not the white grille shell, paint it body color.
    6) As much as I like Moon Tanks (even considered putting mine on the front of my rpu) I would take it off this car, it detracts from the simplicity of the car.

That would be it, those changes wouldn't cost a lot and you could recoup some of the money by selling those wheels and tires to someone (If you were local I would buy them for my upcoming 46 project). But as it sits the car really looks well done and has some good bones to it.

Congrats on your first hot rod.Roadsters are a lot of fun,for sure.Everyone has their own opinions & there is a wealth of knowledge on here. But bare in mind that it is a lil "street rodder" for around here.Put up a pic of it on the photshop thread, there are some very talented guys here that can change that car in the wink of an eye,to give you an idea of what it can look like etc.
That said,I like it,but as lot of people have said I would change out them wheels & paint that grille,,,,ohh & put an FE in it,,,

The best part of this thread to me is that another guy has "joined up" with the hobby. Welcome.

Don't feel bad that we have given you some of our opinions of how we would personalize your really nice car. All of us look at every other car on here (or anywhere) and think "I would change this or that on it." I can't think of any car that I have seen on here (or anywhere) when that thought hasn't crossed my mind, and I bet everyone else feels the same way. Just the way we rodders are ! :):)

I certainly would be proud to own yours.

You'll probably change your mind a hundred times on different changes between now & winter. I wouldn't be in a hurry. Drive it & enjoy it.

    I like hot rods with
    Olds/caddy/buick powered
That how they did it in the late 50's early sixties
    Plus nothing beats a roadster I have a 31

So, how long did you take, trying to decide what cap to wear, for the drive? 10 minutes? 20? Did you make sure it looked good with your sunglasses?:D Most roadster guys have done that, but they'll deny it.

Beautiful A - looks like a real quality build. I should keep my yap shut since my only traditional transportation is canvas and made by Converse, but here goes...

Check out page 114 of Rodder's Journal number 63. Tom Prufer's roadster with wide Ansen slots all around. Not within the 65 and older style HAMB rules, but I think it's time to see more of that era ride around, and it would sure work on this car.

What about tilting the windsheild and bringing the white from the firewall back into the body in a three point scallop with the steelies and black wall biasplys. Get rid of the tilt wheel as well. just a thought so its not another all black roadster on a duece frame.

Lol I was so excited to get out and cruise I forgot a hat (big mistake) but I did remember sunglasses.
Couple of minor issues to work on carb adjustment new edlebrock when I get on it she bogs down and backfires through the carb but then takes off. It did stall out a few time waiting for lights. So not sure if the gas was old, I filled the tank with 93 octane and put a can of seafoam in.

Maybe some of those Chev adaptor Ford valve covers?? (just kidding, Floyd...beautiful car.)
But....Yes, pull off those new, pricy aluminum billet wheels and replace them with some nice old rusty Ford steel wheels. (sandblasted's O.K., if ya don't tell anyone!) There are rules...
