I've been wanting one of these for a while. This really wasn't the perfect time to buy it, but sometimes you have to jump when the opportunity is there. It has a 350 and 700r, with Mustang 2 front and dual leaf springs in back. It's been passed around a few times and probably has not been on the road for at least 25 years. That's going to change. I have all the parts to make this car a really clean hot rod and put it on the street as my daily driver. My plans are to make it road worthy and refine it as I go....here's pictures of the car when I picked it up....I'll try to up date as I build....
The guy that I bought this car from has had several 409 cars in the past (the pictures were taken in his garage). He still has an old 348 on an engine stand that he is building for somebody. The W valve covers are a remnant of some past engine. My immediate plans for this car is to put it on the highway. There are a few wrongs to make right. The guy I got it from just gave up on the project. He had it all together and decided to change oil pans. When he started it up to break in the cam he discovered that he forgot to put oil back in the engine. That's when I got the project. I had the crank polished and the cylinders honed. Then I nolticed that on the main bearing webs next to the main caps was stamped 020. I made a call to a machine shop and took a few measurements and discovered that the main bearing caps had been honed 20 over. Luckily, King bearings makes a 20 over OD main bearing. The previous owner had standard bearings in this engine. The engine was doomed from the start, oil or no oil. When I get the new bearings, I'll put the engine together, set it in the car, run a few wires, put the windows in, change the wheels and tires, and go for a spin. I'll have more pictures in a week or so.
