Hot Rods Just for fun, If you had dumb money to spend what on topic car or truck would you buy or build?

  1. I think they were looking into the exhaust and described it as "looking through the gates of Hell!"
I would be happy with a restored mid to late fifties Mercury or Lincoln coupe. I gotta get the family around somehow!

Pretty much what I have. I'd just make them better and they'd get there sooner.

  3. price not an option?

1940 Ford coupe. Candy red lacquer over gold. Bumper-less. Lucas Flame throwers. Nosed and decked.

Vintage S&W gauges. Complete custom dash. Black leather diamond tuck or block tuck. Inserts only if block tuck. flat wood Cal Custom wheel 15"

Drop axle, slit bones but only enough to clear oil pan. Seriously down in the snout. Magnesium Americans, big n littles. The rears totally inside the fenders no tubs. 12" Buicks on the front, 90 fins will work, again on the back. 9" Ford, detroit locker, ladder bars. 3.26-3.55 gear.

427 side oiler, medium rise. 4 speed top loader. 3" exhaust, 18" glass packs, scavenger pipes, under the axle of course, close to the middle.

I am sure I have missed something. LOL

    Ahh. The legendary L79 Nova. I wanted one when they were new and took my new wife the the dealership to pick the color and options. Unfortunately, she became enamored with a yellow Malibu on the showroom floor, which led to a big fight. We finally settled on a yellow L79 Corvette coupe;

Sometimes things do turn out right.:D

Yeh, the 66 car is legendary but it's the 67 that is as rare as chicken lips.
I know it is a bit new for this joint but do you know how they differ, GM only built like six or seven of them.

  8. Hands down, 33 Ford coupe. Likely a 5 window, full fenders, not too pretty.

A 32 Ford highboy roadster. Built era correct to about 1948, with a hopped-up flathead, 39 top shift trans and a Halibrand quick change. Either Ford steelies, or 35 Ford wires, along with a Dago'd front axle.

Choice #2 would be an O.T. 1966 Yenko Stinger Corvair.

I wouldn't. Cars are a bad way to spend money.

  11. When I was in Junior High School, and had just discovered Henry Gregor Felson, I wanted a fenderless 32 three window coupe. 427 Ford powered with a 6-71 and two fours with a top loader 4 speed. A 9” rear with a Detroit Locker and polished aluminum slot wheels. It would be midnight blue metallic, but strangely enough, I never thought about the interior. This is my vision of the perfect Hot Rod I’ve had since 7th grade.

Yeah, spending money on gas for the car is even better than spending it on the car

Got to be a Great clone of a Ford Thunderbolt with a proper side oiler or new aluminum version, so I could get it registered and drive it on the street. :)

Wife can handle her own expenses, as well as food and insurance. House is paid for. So cars really are the best thing to spend my money on.

Depending on exactly how stupid that money to spend was, I'd build a house in a tight, walkable, mixed-use neighbourhood, with commercial or light-industrial on the street front, and a workshop/garage in an undercroft under a raised back garden. If the money to spend were really imbecilic I'd build the entire neighbourhood. Only then, when neither I nor any of my neighbours need a car, would I build my car.

My wife can too, but still enjoys gifts.

Home is paid for, the other 5 buildings, and all of the acreages are, too.

I'd still have the same rusty shitboxes, I'd just be able to afford the 6mpg...

  26. yea but if you are spending stupid money why not have one. :D

Speaking along those lines, and with a side mention of late model. The car I moved from Oregon to Missouri in was a metalic blue, L79 powered '67 Chevelle. Now onto interior, it was an AM radio, no AC, bench seat, 4 speed car. The bench was cloth, no vinyl, no pleats. Just as plane as the preacher's daughter. Not much to look at but one helluva ride. :D

Now getting back to regular programming. I guess if I could not have the 40 coupe a 39 Zephyr coupe would do in a pinch. That one would have to be something a little more sinister than candy red though. Perhaps midnight blue or mid night in the cypress swamp black with a blue hue. A little blue flip flop if you please.
