I found these a few months ago at the shop and finally had the chance to scan them..

Pretty crazy seeing other shots of carnage that was once the head quarters for some of the best custom ever built. George had no insurance and he told me that out of all the cars that were lost only one guy tried to sue him.. The judge gave it to George said it was a act of God!!

This First shot you see is what looks like Archie Moore's 1954 Jaguar, A Cadillac and the back of the Wild Kat.. also the rear of a 40 Truck
    [IMG]

Heres a step back shot... Chopped 40 ford truck
    [IMG]

And from the front of the door
    [IMG]

Out the back I believe Jane Mansfields Jag and the Wild Kat all gone... And the Pole that started it all..

The to the Shop Bays you see Ron Guidry's 1936 Ford and an Unknown what would of been an amazing Kustom..

The Shop bays with the doors closed
    [IMG]

The shop doors open we find a 32 3 window that I never seen in any pix of another Jag
and to the far right you see what is the leaded Cowl of the AlaKat. George said it stopped at the paint booth and it sure did..

Thats all I found for now... I'll have other neat stuff to post soon..

It was pretty much the worst day in Kustom history.

Very heart breaking......I would hate to have the feelings that George had when all that burned.

Very sad day, I read somewhere that the custom with the canted quad headlights was a '55-56 Merc, agree it would have been a great custom.....there was also a full-fendered deuce roadster that was badly burned....a reminder also that the Barris shop was doing cars for the stars even back then

Thanks for posting those. What a sad fate for those cars but a perfect example of why you need insurance.

During a storm the power lines from that pole banged together and cause a shower of sparks to fall on the building which resulted in the fire.

Sad to see what the results were but neat to see some more picture turn up.

Yes that correct on the Power Lines... That how the firs started..

Jeffries was sitting across the street and called George said the shop is on fire!! George
thought he was joking and hung up.. Then he got a call from the fire department saying Yes its true its on fire!!.. Jeffries manage to get his girls car out the front before the flames took over... The front of the building was considered Lynwood county and the back of the shop was L.A. county so they had to wait for L.A. county to get there to put out the back of the fire.. by that time they showed up it was already too late.. Wonder if Lynwood would of stepped up and put of the flames out in back it could of saved some of the cars..

Thanks for that, and the great pix. I'v read bits and pieces about that fire for years, but never herd how it actually started.
