Hi Folks, Going through some really old Family photos and I found this Bitchin '54 Olds Custom. Taken in 1954 or '55. It has a shaved hood, Dodge (Plymouth?) grille, '54 Merc tail lights, twin antennas, and twice pipes. The coolest part is the little girl on the right is Diane, my Wife of 50 years!! Her dad Ray was in the Navy. That is her three sisters. Is that cool or what? 409 Bob
Neat Custom! Looks to be the daily driver judging by the tag on the front bumper. No stickers back then, most attractions/ amusement parks had people out in the parking lots attaching their thin cardboard location ads to your bumpers with thin wire. I remember on one vacation our car's bumpers were full of these!
Yep, pretty cool old custom. Surprised it took 7 posts before any one noted the correct grill and tail light ID. Also, from area below headlights, and 3 piece rear glass, and shape of quarters and trunk lid, I'd say it is a 1950 Olds, not a '54. But again, pretty cool, thanks for posting. Are those '55 Ford eyebrow headlight bezels?
You guys are too much! From the kids I know now that it was a 1955 picture. You are right, The grille is '54 Pontiac and the tail lights are '51 Lincoln. The car would be a '50 or'51 from the Rocket on the hood. (I just got my zoom working on the old PC). I was communicating with the sisters but they are a little fuzzy on details. Dorothy is 80! (Left upper) Ray had a lot of cars, but this is the only custom. No telling on the engine. By '55 the biggest was 324 cubes. Man, they were using brand new car parts. Bitchin then, bitchin now. Bob
Congrats on the milestone 50 years of marriage. You guys are doing something right! And the tail lights, with the backup lights below and the chrome bezel ... likely 1954 Lincoln Capri
Hi Folks, See if you can identify all this speed equipment on my Dad's '49 Chevy. This was in 1955 like the above Olds. The Olds would have blown his doors (4) off.
aftermarket intake and exhaust........couldn't identify the manufacturers. thanks for the time capsule
Kool pics, thanks for sharing! Wish I had pics of my Dad's old rides back in the day. Did get to see some of his 57 Olds J2 convertible, but sadly I have no idea where they went after Grandma passed away...
I knew there were some inliners out there! 4.11's and an overdrive. ( the O.D. came in the trunk and He put it in). The full pic of the car is too many bytes, i will reduce it. We called it the 'Red Bomb'. Bob
Super cool pics!! Sure appreciate you sharing! I don't recognize the intake on your dad's Chevy. The dual exhaust manifolds might be Fenton.
Yes, it is a Mallory dual point distributor, and for 302GMC, a pair of those honkin' 25010 condensers. I still use those on my points distributor in the Corvair. Bob
Here I go replying to my own post. The 'Red Bomb' '49 chevy more-door fastback. I drove this to High School in 1968. I reduced the pixels to 2.5 mB and it worked. Here are our two 6 cylinder buggies. The rail is a .060 over 235 with a Holman/moody cam, High compression pistons with that weird lump for the stock chambers, three Rochester one barrels, Mallory Ignition, stock 3 speed locked in high, 4.56 rear gears. roll bar not on yet. No lack of traction. Bob
