Ummmm, I think, you are looking at the end of the torsion bar................

The adjustment you seek, will be perpendicular to the torsion bar, and it will a hex head bolt.........................The ends of the torsion bar are hex shaped as well.......................nothing to adjust there..............

Just a suggestion....................Why don't you seek out someone local, and knowledgeable, about these suspensions, to give you a quick "primer", on how they work, their construction, etc.......................It would be worth taking him to lunch, or a 12 pack of beer........................
Just a thought, to save you some grief, and disappointment, frustration, etc.................................

It's just that you sometimes lose a lot, in the translation, of the written word, when trying to instruct someone on some technical procedures........:D:D

I have them on the front of my 99 gmc 4x4 and I just took mine to the frontend alignment shop to have it raised cranking the bolts the other direction...........They just charged me for the frontend alignment......about 35 bucks.

Had a friend once that nearly cut his thumb off lowering something like this not knowing what he was doing........he said he backed the bolt all the way out with tension still on the torsion bar or something???
I also raised the front of a 67 satelite I had like this years ago but I cranked them myself that time and didnt do the alignment.
also check out (C9s) rundown of what other bolt pattern wheels fit your imperial (scroll down on link)

  4. After reading through the posts on this thread I figured out I was looking at the wrong thing. Thanks Stealth Cruiser, you were right I was a little lost haha. I turned both bolts 3 full turns anti clock-wise. I havn't checked to see results yet b/c I have the car on stands. I need to change the carrier bearing for the drivesshaft. I'll post some pics later when I get it back on the ground. Gotta find that bearing first.

You must have a lot of patience:D I would have already took the stands out and put that badboy on the ground to see what it looked like:D

  6. I lost my patience! I had to put it on the ground. I turned the bolt 5 full turns on each side.....I forgot to measure the starting height....but I think it came down about an inch and a half. I still have to lower the back with some blocks I have ordered, so then I'll lower the front a lil more to make it match the back. Still need to find some kind of caps for the wheels....we'll see.

IMO, 64 Imperial caps are by far the nicest Chrysler caps from the 60's. They have that pot metal center turbine with the body color insert and the floating Imp emblem...fresh. (wish i could find a close up)

I've seen dudes rock 58 Chrysler (non imp) caps on 60's mopars that look pretty good too.

...And you cant go wrong with some Kelsey Hayes wires... though plan on taking a second mortgage out for those...

FYI ... the wire wheels available on '50s Chryslers & Imperials were manufactured by Motor Rim (not Kelsey Hayes).

Glad you went w/ the skinny whites.
I think a set of nice wires would be killer for this style body.
Big body Chryslers are just awesome!

    Good call!

  12. I'd love to throw on some stock imperial caps with a bullet in the center, but those caps cover the entire rim....I'm pretty proud of the flake job I did to them haha. I'm still leanin towards some sunburst caps. Wires would look nice, but its just not my style.

  13. The original Imperial wheelcovers (without bullets!) are fantastic looking, they add class to the car. Way better than exposed steel wheels.

I would say maybe chrome reverse wheels and skinny whites. Since supremes won't fit, cragar s/s might look cool. If you haven't already, you might post a pic on the photoshop thread. That would give you some ideas.

    This is so cool.
I'm eyeing one locally that I was thinking about building for the wife and I to cruze around in style. I'm a little gun shy of the light blue interior otherwise I'm all over it.

  19. ok mopar guys....I have a question...I put 3" lowering blocks under it...everything fit fine....except there's a trac bar that runs from the car to the top of the rear end on both sides....that bar made it so I couldn't line up the block with the springs. So I took it out, figured it wasn't necessary since I havn't seen many other leaf spring suspensions with them. I drove it down the road and it seemed to track fine, no vibration. the only thing I noticed different from lowering the back is now my center support bearing makes ALOT of noise when I leave from a stop. I already have a new one to replace it, so that should be an easy fix. I'll post some pics later

    Yes, some pics would help.

  21. Well I thought I would do a lil update. Got some hubcaps yesterday as a present and have a new steering wheel on its way too! Also lowered the back 3". I think I need to lower hte back a lil more though....maybe another 1 1/2" It'd look way better with some wide whites, but I don't really want to spend that kinda money on this car. So this will do for now. Better than stock black wheels. [IMG]

That car would look sweet with a blue flaked roof. It's damn sweet.

  23. That's on my list of stuff I want to do.....just wish it wasn't soo expensive.

I hear ya. If you do it right, not to sound cheap, the Rustoleum metallic has some nice flake in it, lays down smooth, and with a good bit of clear looks great.

  25. I thought I'd update the thread. Here's some pics after I installed the 3" lowering blocks
Looks 100% better if you ask me!!!

I'd put some white touch up paint on that spot on the driver's door, that would drive me insane. Otherwise I'd say it's just right, sits nice and looks good, doesn't need anything else.

I'd restore it back to original minus maybe dropping it and a set of custom wheels.

I guess I should go to the last page before I post. Job well done, just like I'd have done it.

  30. We are already on the same page. I bought five shades of white and off white touch-up paint at AutoZone today.
