Where was all that when I went two years ago?

How was the new WWII memorial? That is my favorite city ever. What an amazing place.

Heard they had close to 500K bikes for the Run to the Wall this year - took almost 4hrs to empty out the Pentagon parking lot - crazy. My dad drove up there straight through from Miami Wed night (19hrs) & driving straight back today (should get in late tonight).

60th anniversary of D-Day next week - pretty heady stuff. I know lots of big plans for reenactments/tributes/memorials/ceremonies here in Europe.

Was at Duxford Imperial War Museum today - took my son (who's crazy about anything that flies). They had their B-17 flying today*******ed by a pair of Spitfires. Later on, a P-47 did mock airfield raids. That place is amazing - I've been several times & I never get tired of going there.

    Happy Memorial Day!
    Let us never forget!

Yeah, the Smithsonian is well worth the time to see. That car is located in the museum of American History and there's also a lowrider that was built in New Mexico (forget the model), as well as one of Prudhomme's cars.

As far as DC is concerned, they can keep it. I was a homeowner on Capitol Hill (10 blocks behind the capitol) and that town is run like a Banana Republic. Ever have to go to court to defend yourself over nearly $1K of parking tickets for a car you never owned registered to an address you never lived at during a period of time you never lived there? And then move to California only to have to fly back to DC to go to the DMV in order to transfer the****le to a car you sold in CA?

I f**'in hate that town. But the Smithsonian rocks. And it's free.

My hubby and I did Rolling Thunder (aka Ride to the Wall) 2 years ago on our scooters! It was incredible... 40k bikes there that year and we spent a good 8 hours on the pentagon parking lot waiting to do the ride. The harley guys were pretty cool... we were revving our scooters at them and they got a huge kick out of it.

No*****, you couldn't PAY me to live there, but it is the most amazing place I've ever visited as a tourist. All of the Smithsonian museums, the Holocaust Museum, the monuments and memorials, the Spy museum...it is a great place to visit.
I was NOT impressed with the food, though.

What FlatErnie said about Duxford!! The BEST air museum anywhere. The working restoration shops are awesome, also.
Then there's the armor and truck museum. The place is like the Twilight Zone. The glass wall depicting the thousands of aircraft flown out of England and shot down is very sobering. I had a elderly Brit come up to me and ask if I "was a Yank?". He was almost in tears when he said thank you (the USA) for coming to England's****istance in WWII. Amazing!

Not to hijack this thread, but...

I commute daily to the Pentagon via the DC METRO. Yes, traffic*****s, but it's because everybody is going to work. The greater DC region has had one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country over the past 30 years. I can accept the stress because that's what it takes to finance my garage habit.

BTW, if anyone else is visiting DC and has some time, go visit the Smithsonian Air & Space annex at Dulles Airport.

It's just a couple of miles from my house and you can stop by for a cold one if you want [IMG].
