They are still out there folks!! I found this 61 Vette recently when I asked about a RX-7 convertible that was rotting in the backyard. He asked if I was interested in another car he had and of course I almost choked when he said it was a old Vette! Car is all original with one repaint from 30 years ago still looking good. There is a book of do***entation with the car including the original window sticker and sales invoice! There is also every registration going back through three owners and bills-of-sale from each one with the cancelled checks! All service history from day one, original wonderbar radio manual, original hardtop manual and even an electric clock manual! I got it home and points and plugs and a fresh battery and she runs like a 5 year old car. The black convertible top looks brand new! Tires have flat spots on them from sitting and are a little but wobbly but hey, I'm NOT complaining. He offered it to me for what I thought was a good price and of course I jumped on it, but after I bought it I did some research and realised it was about 60% of market value. Oh, and AFTER I bought it he tells me he has a hard top for it in a back bedroom! It only needs a little cleaning and detailing and some sunny day driving!
Cool man! Congratulations on a nice score. Came with a hardtop too! Never seen a monochrome '61 Vette that wasn't a fuelie or 2x4 race job...
Wow, good score. Usually when I come to my senses it is when I realize what I bought is only worth 60% of what I paid for it (if I am that lucky). Damn nice looking car.
It is so cool you got all that do***entation with the car. When people save the dealer docs and all their service work receipts, it shows they are P***IONATE about the car. That LOVE and P***ION translates to a car that has been well taken care of. You can rest ***ured anything that had to be fixed was fixed right. You can bet everything you can't see is in great shape too. This gives a lot of peace of mind and more time to enjoy your new car. I always wanted to find a car like that. Sufficiently old, good history, and it would have to be cool enough own it's own to justify not really modding it. The reason I wouldn't want to change it is why screw up all that cool history? I think that vette fits the bill nicely. Can I have it?
There was even two newspaper cl***ifieds cut out and in plastic covers from when the car had been advertised for sale in 1968 ($1,900) and 1984 ($12,000)!
Good on ya! You for sure got a killer car. Conratulations! You should try to get in touch with the first guy (if he's still around) and let him know it's still around and still being LOVED as much as when he had it. I bet that would make his day!
cool score! 61-62 are my favorite body style. I had a '62 for 20 years, by far the most 'fun' car I've ever owned
Wow, great find there. Looks to be in really nice original shape. Less than 11,000 were produced for '61, so kinda rare as well. Enjoy it but don't mess with it's originality.
Don't tell me - it's got a vette engine.... Killer deal and you must be stoked. I'd take that over money in the bank any day.
Great cars, they are just awsome. Now, about that RX-7 - you ain't a closet tuner are you? Just kidding! Last year i went to ohio with a customer to capture a '61 vette that he had left at a 'hot rod' shop to get some work done. We loaded pieces of his car for hours, the body was on top of an abandoned trailer, the frame had boxes of stuff and junk on it, the engine laying in the corner, transmission piled in another area, door windows, regulators, seats, dash, doors-you get the idea. The car was totally tore apart, we never did get all the stuff for it, ******* bunch of yahoos just tore it apart, no do***entation, pics, nothing, just tore it apart! It is still sitting (well, piled) in the trailer we loaded it in. A true basket case.
Nice score, i had a 62 in High Scool paid $1,200.00 for it, the fibergl*** hold's up real good whe you roll it to. Thank god i had the hard top on that night. PINCHER
