I was perusing the '32 thread that our old friend Larry Roller started several years ago and though just how many different body styles were offered in 1932, not just what Uncle Henry's assembly line rolled out but take in consideration of speciality models. Mostly based on the '32 chassis, passenger cars and commercial. To start it off I offer the 1932 Ford hearse. HRP
Here’s a list from the 1932 Body Parts Price List, There were also a number of different large trucks, the BB’s with either 131 1/2” or 157” wheelbase and numerous options available like a hydraulic dump ram, large ice bodies, stake beds, etc. You would buy a chassis, sometimes with a cab and have it fitted to your needs. I would think the hearse was from a custom body supplier and never cataloged by Ford.
Pretty rare and above my pay grade but I am quite smitten by the Sedan Delivery and the B400 Convertible Sedan. Funny how our interests change as we get older! This should look familiar Danny
Don't forget the Aussie Roadster ute and the English 4 door sedans with their suicide doors. The English versions may have had other body styles but I'm not familiar with them.
I thought the Aussie ute started in 1934, but maybe wrong English Tudor also. Fordson, as in English made models, like model Y plus commercial stuff like fire engines Down here, we had colonial cabs, 2 different types that I am aware of. Then there were French, German and Argentina models also. As a side note, I started trying to find out how many different styles of dashes were made, Innie, outie, 3 window coupe, roadster pickup, sports coupe with windscreen vents, possibly others, (left and right hand drive versions of these if you wish to get carried away) Different Grill surrounds and inserts. The variety of what was made, mostly in a nine month period, just astounds me………..
How many of these body styles are owned by HAMBers? Roadsters, coupes, sedans, and pickups are easy. But who has a B-400? Where’s the sport coupe (hi Ron)? Any phaetons blowing around?
thanks, that clears things up. I remember now, - a few years ago there was an Australian ‘32 roadster ute for sale in NZ. (Off topic for this forum). Wasn’t sure if it was home built in later years. here is an example for those in the Northern Hemisphere………
The only bad part of the sedan delivery is driving one, lots of blind spots. That's why we got rid of ours
Yes, it’s hard to discern, but if you enlarge the image you can just pick it out to the left of the red lines. Also at the bottom of the door there’s a gap by the rocker. I think the light color doesn’t help either. See what some call a rumble seat grab handle? Pickups don’t have rumble seats, those are top rests.
I reckon that's an Aussie body as I can't see the join beads down the back of the tub and the rear door appears to be the open type wooden framed style used in Australia. Can't remember what the US doors look like as it's 60 years since I saw one. Will have to go over the shed and study mine.
Pretty good gaps for a Ute! Also, was it normal that these doors didn't have outside handles? Extra cost option?!
Given the custom touches on the car I’d say it was personal preference that the owner just didn’t want them. The dropped headlight bar, wheels and tires, stainless moulding on the running boards, paint and gas filler door say it’s a hot rod to me.
