Hi I have enjoyed you articles which I stumbled upon on various google searches. I am just starting a new project as i have staring at the boob tube way too much. nothing gets me as enthused a new construction project. I want to build a flathead coupe with traditional gear. I have located a couple sources for complete 36-39 running gears. and i brought home what i believe is a 38 221" that " was running great" when pulled out for a SBC. but i got the engine home and there was a soft rusty spot below the center exhaust. i tapped on it and eventually weedled out a 1" by 2'' hole. what do you think about bolting on a plate with a gasket? by the way I built my first AV8 project 1996 after i got tired of playing with the chevys. then in about 2005 i built a 1941 pickup from old parts starting with a 46 cab and a 39 car frame. Anyway i do love the old school stuff. I am a real old timer and trying to revitalize myself before i petrify. appreciate any thoughts on patching the block
