hey everyone. i am planning on shooting some primer on my '47 this weekend. i want some sort of good primer sealer, as i plan on driving it this way all summer. but, i am not looking for anything insanely tough, as i will need to sand it down to paint next winter. i am planning on buying something from PPG as that is what my dad usually sprayed with. if anyone has any ideas as to a good quality primer to use, i would really appreciate it. someone already suggested DP-90, any thoughts?
If you are looking at something that won't cost you an arm and a leg, look at PPG's Shop-Line brand of primers. It's better than Omni but not as expensive as the DP-LF series. I used it (even paint and clear) on my wifes convertible and was pleased. Quite a bit cheaper too. Bill
Our paint store has a primer its grey its a commercial primer a lot of truckers use it to clean up old dump trucks and what ever else. Any way its goes on easy and it is hard as nails when done. This stuff can stand alone water does not penatrate. But its a metal etching primer and way cheaper than PPG. The store we buy from is Cloverdale Paints. The product is Clovaprime John
If you're planning on driving the car in primer, I'd suggest giving it a coat of vinyl wash first and then use a good epoxy primer to keep the air/moisture away from your metal. The vinyl wash gets a really good hold on the base metal and your primer will stick to it like glue. Flatman
