    HAMB'ers,
    I just wanted to check and see if I was the sort of fella welcome in here;

I've read a dozen posts about how "stupid" it is to rattle-can flat black on your ride... what if that's all I can afford right now, and I'm under the opinion it'd look better than the 30%grey primer/30% red oxide primer/30% original red/ 10% light blue I'm sporting now? I don't have red wheels, and wasn't even thinking about it, but I do have a (ten shades of) red interior. Some of us can't afford to take our measley rides to the paint booth for a $4,000 finish (or even a $500 MAACO one for that matter) Isn't a bunch of elbow grease, and handfull of ****** knuckles, and a case of flat black still doing it the "old school" way?

And I wish I could afford the 20's 30's and 40's rides which seem to be dominant in this group, I really really do... but I can't. I'm so proud of finding my '62 Galaxie in the shape that it's in for the price I paid, I could just **** circles around myself. I'm not ***uming that all of you own pre-60's stuff, but I sure don't see many of them flaunted like I would like to.

And if I hear one more comment about "Fat Girls" or "Fat-***ed Girlfriends"... swear to God, I'm gonna snap. I happened to be married to my "Fat-***ed Girlfriend", and not only could she totally kick most of your ***es, she can weld a bead that would put half of you to shame. The size of her Pushin' Coushin ain't got **** to do with how beautiful I think she is, or how well she supports me, my artwork, my car habit and life in general.

Just let me know if this is "whining"... if it is, I will shuttup and move on my merry way. I've enjoyed the few weeks I've spent in here so far, but the more I read, the more I've almost come to the conclusion that everyone with a FlatBlack paintjob and a big girl in the p***enger seat is trying to follow some kind of "trend"... and I'm the least "trendsetting" person you will ever meet. And even if I could afford a '32 Coupe with a oil-slick black paint job with traditional flames with a flathead built to the hilt... my fat girl would still be beside me all the way.

Besides Go-rilla's advice, mine is to be selective about the posts you read if some of them piss you off. This place is part of America every one has a say. We just don't have to listen to everyone's "say ".

BTW,my '34 coupe is rattle can black and I like it that way.

Stick around. There are really good people on this board.
You can enjoy some, learn from others and ignore the rest.

  13. To quote a friend and a HAMBer's HAMBer, we're all a bunch of "Hoodlums." In layman's terms we're a little rough around the edges. If you can't take us the way we are than you are in the wrong place.

As far as rattle can black on your ride, who gives a big rats ***. Its your Galaxie, right? Hell buy some rustolium and squirt it with a bug sprayer if you want.
Opinions are like ***holes ya know. Do you smell what I'm tellin' ya?

No onto your obvious real problem with the HAMB, fat bottom girls make the world go round bro. Like your ride marry who ya want. You're happy, she's happy, right?

You'll do all right, it not like you're restorin' a muscle car or the like. Just hang awhile, if you decide you don't like us then leave. No harm no foul.

Let's all be honest with ourselves. The HAMB is the place that FLAT BLACK PAINT built.

I think you got a good head on your shoulders and I think you are more than welcomed. Now that we know where you are coming from, I think you will see a lot more respect handed out your way... You're a car guy and that's all that matters.

Wow, I guess you are initiated... old school hamb style...

Welcome... now, lets talk about cars again...

Sounds like she'll be taking up most of the seat though...

Listen, if I comment on on a rattlecan paint job, it is based on style, not economics. If I come accross as disapproving of rat rodz, it is because I do disapprove of punks building piles of **** on purpose. I have already gotten into the reasons why recently so I will not repeat it. If you are into what you think are traditional cars, I'd invite you to visit sites like OSR at the same time and after a while you will see a difference. Rat rods are about the scene and a rockarifficcuffaliciouspompadorable at***ude. Traditional hotrods pay homage to a history of speed and style.

Take it easy there tough guy.

    You will be fine here.

I ***ume you are referring to the guy with the 63 Olds? I think that what a lot of us were trying to get across to him is try to keep the look of the car period correct. Cars that were customized or hot rodded in the mid 60's generally didnÂ’t have flat black paint / red wheels / wide whites.

BUT, itÂ’s your car, so you can do it however you want. Do what you can afford. Get some buddies together, rent some spray equipment, and spray some COLOR on it yourself. It wont be perfect, but it may come out looking ok. There is a HAMBer here (I donÂ’t recall his name, I think he has a 60's Buick?) that sprayed his car himself, outside, and it looked pretty good, and probably didnÂ’t cost an arm and a leg.

So pick a different color. We did a '59 wagon in a Krylon Satin Robin Egg greenish color. Looked 10 times better.

It's a tough thing, this internet thing. No one can see your face or hear your voice, so nobody knows how to react. All we see is the words, so the tone is set by our mood, or whatever else might be going on at the moment of impact. I've seen plenty of threads go bad like that, not because someone meant ill will, but because of the lack of emotion on your screen. Don't sweat it, the guys and gals of this board are the greatest.

Thankfully. If the HAMB ever turns into a H.O.G. Rally (TM) , then I'm just gonna quit talking to people all together. It's bad enough that it's happened to Harley's.

Amen, I don't want to get one of those sharp, skinny, heroin chic hipbones in my eye if I happen to flip the car at speed. Give'em a cheeseburger if for no other reason than safety's sake. ;)

    OK GA...take a look at this car...it ain't a square bodied car, it ain't a sixties custom...it's a fifties Kustom...and it doesn't have six figures of $$ in it...

AND it's in primer...it ain't flat blak and there's those of us that think "color" is better...the primer runs about $65.00 a gallon, including hardener...about what a case of "flat blak" would cost you...it's been on the car for over a year now and hasn't lost it satiny sheen...

And you think you're about the least "trendsetting" person you will ever meet. Doubt that...I've been bucking the trend all my life...check out my user name, then check out my website...

FWIW, welcome to the HAMb...if you're into old cars, you belong here!

Good advice. Add thickener to your skin and supercharge your Sensayoomer, and you're good to go. Now ask for some tech advice and see what this joint is all about. Sarcasm abounds here, but very smart and experienced craftsmen will offer help and advice if you need it.

Ok, I haven't seen the subject come up in at least a few hours, so I gotta chime in on the rattle can issue:

I wouldn't do it. (Note I didn't say, "YOU shouldn't do it.") Why, because spray bomb paint won't hold up to a whole lot. It works ok if you rarely drive (or wash!) your car, and you keep it inside except for a few weekends a year. And if that's all the daylight it sees, then that ups your chances of being a scenester, IMO. (Heavy on the "IMO"). rattlebombs don't cover as well as many other types of paint, so they actually let moisture, bug guts, etc. get down under the paint surface, causing more rust. (There are a few here that see that as a good thing! LOL) Since the paint is keeping moisture against the metal, the rusting can actually be worse than just bare metal. I'd consider brushing on some $8/quart oil-based paint from the SuperMegaHomeImprovementWarehouse™ before I'd rattlecan it.

There are a lotta people on the HAMB that feel like flat black is real cliche... but it mostly depends on the thoughts and at***udes behind it. Just like slick Viper Red is to the checkbook crowd, it's often a "safe" color. Just don't forget that both paint and primer come in other colors... and they did back in the day, as well. If you keep coming back to black, then cool.

Another thing: if you got the calico theme going now, it tells me you are definitely working on your car... or driving it too much to get anything done on it. In my eyes, either of these is cooler than a bad spraybomb job... but that's just me.

The first car I remember was a whitewalled, red-rimmed, flat black something or other when I was about 3. It made an impression.

THAT is the look I love, just my taste. Done to death, yes - but as a famous quote said - "there is nothing new under the sun". My bike is satin black/red-rimmed and whitewalled, my lawnmower is too, and my son's motorcycle rocker is also! It's a cl***ic look.

Maybe it's ME that should ask if I belong here - I don't even have a car yet! I found this site by accident and joined to learn. And learn I have - more than I could have imagined and I'll know SO MUCH MORE when I (soon!) get ready to hand over the cash for that F100 I'm destined for. (And will rattlecan flat black and powdercoat the wheels red). This place has been an invaluable resource to this new-to-cars motorcycle guy.

I 've also learned that certain types of tomfoolery aren't tolerated here - even if well-intentioned. Ryan straightened me out re. a post of mine which - while a joking request for information - didn't read that way and was not appropriate and should have been kept off. I have much to learn and little to offer but questions, so I keep quiet.

    Didn't sound whiney to me...
