Customs Just Picked Up A 50 Shoebox! Update!

This is my first flathead. Runs like a sewing machine. suppose to have 10,000 miles on a rebuild. Any info I should know about the flathead to keep it running smooth would be appreciate the advice. (weight of oil, kind of gas, ect.)

The Car has some rot on the floorboads and front fenders, a little above the rear splash but seems like straight forward metal work to me.

Let me know what you guys think.

Any good website for shoebox sheetmetal?

 

Great looking ride. I always use 20w 50 for my oil, seems to like that the best. For spark plugs I run NGK 3212 (b6l) I use Marvel Mystery Oil every once in a while in the gas to keep everything nice and wet. I also HIGHLY reccomend goin to a newer distributor by GMC Bubba if it doesnt have one already. Maybe an electric fuel pump, other that that, just drive the wheels off that bitch. How is it lowered?

Very cool welcome to the club.

 

It has one leaf removed in the rear with 4" drop blocks and 2 coils cut in front which I am hoping to find some legitimate lowering coils. Dizzy is stock. Can these motors stock handle a bit more than a single barrel carb?

And anyone know what Flathead I have here?

 

Need all rubber for windows/doors, and a place that rebuilds steering boxes? I'm guessing I have a 239...

EMS has tons of sheet metal repair pieces for your car and Dennis Carpenter also. I see all their stuff when I'm looking for pieces compatible to my '54 but they are slim to none for me. Anyway there is also a place here called C&G Early Fords but all their stuff is usually from Dennis Carpenter.

The sheet metal swirly crap needs painted. Looks kinda cool but not for this type of a car. Maybe in a drag car.

Needs some flatty speed parts and a headliner, but seriously nice buy looks like a good runner and if its not it should take much to get her there.

welcome to the club..you can get the rubber from C&G ford parts or try steele rubber products.Get some speed parts for the flatty,make sure the timing is right and the radiator is clean.I use brad penn oil and NGK plugs.have fun with the flatty and they will last a damn long time

nice shoebox! From what I hear, the dual carb manifolds work great on drivers. Hombres run's a dual setup on his. Like the guys said above, try shoeboxford and some of the other stores they listed. If SBF doesn't have it on the site, shoot them an email and ask if the have it in the all shoebox junkyard. Good luck on your build. gotta love the sound of that flathead!

 

ford aerostar front springs work real good and will drop her about 2 1/2 inchs.

Looks nice, look up GMC Bubba for a dizzy. Stock motor can handle two carbs no problems. I just rebuilt the steering box on my '50. Its real simple to do your self just get the service manual and Mac's sells parts for them.

Nice --- looks like its in a little better shape that that Styleline, eh? If you need a hood I think Rog (Used Up Junk) has lots of spare shoebox parts right now. He has at least 2 hoods I know of.
