If you grind/file the corners off of the square on the back side of some finished head bumper bolts you can bolt them through the old holes in the bumpers where the guards were without modifying the bumper any. I've done it several times, it's a little cleaner looking.

  2. I have already started doing that. I bought some stainless ones but I have only quickly done 1 to test. It's on my list for this week.

  3. Another day of cruising to shake her down. About 80 miles today and I knew we needed to shake her down because today we found some issues.
First the headliner tore right infornt of my head and started blinding me with 70 year old fabric particles. Threw a temp fix on.

Then we can to a stop in town and suddenly the car was idling really strange like a surging. It was almost dying out so I had to turn the idle up a touch. After driving around the rest of the day it seems to me like the timing is off and the only thing I could think of is the distributor advance mechanism could be stuck. After looking at it there is this little oil cap that I never noticed....am I suppose to put oil in here?

Lastly we developed a sticky feeling in the throttle that's accompanied by a bog. Tracked it down to the accel pump linkage sliding outwards as you press the pedal down. This creates a sticking feel as well as the bog from the lack of accel jet actually moving. Not sure how solve that. Maybe a new linkage or drilling it out and using a bolt with a bushing.

But we had an excellent day and even took her to the local drive in for the real period vibes.

Even took her on some gravel.

So this week our final push is getting the bumper bolts in, fixing the linkage, fixing the throttle linkage instead of using zip ties, trying to figure out the surging at idle, changing the diff fluid, another fresh oil change and I think that should do it.

That is an oil cap on the distributor. Can't say if it'll solve your issues or not but a few drops of oil down that cap is not a bad thing. No ideas on the carb issue though, although at least that's a very well known carb, there's a lot of threads and info about the Ford/Holley 94, someone will know.

  5. last night I moved the accel jet position to 3 from 2 and it seemed to fix it but it seems like it should be secured in there differently. I'll search around for that. Thanks for confirming oiling hole

  6. I forgot to mention that this overdrive is incredible. 2nd in OD is perfect for cruising and 3rd OD you can really cruise at a good speed. I can't explain it but I just love driving it.

Love this car....the color, tires, wheel covers. How about a side picture out of the shade so we can get the full view of the color? Pretty please.....

  9. Well I made some Vintage torque fest prep progress tonight. Changed the oil, attempted to change the diff fluid but couldn't get the drain plug out and look in the fulill and there is oil so I'm going to let it be for now. Did find that I had some loose u joint bolts so I took care of them, also found the trans seal and seal into the diff both have some nice leaks.
Then I greased the entire front in and dig into my carb issues with the pedel having a hard spot in the sweep accelerating and also the idle surge. The sudden acceleration with the hard spot in the throttle is basically the new accelerator pump quit working so it's doing two things. 1. Not spraying fuel but dripping it and also on the pull down it gets to a point it is hard to pull. Once you push through that it starts squirting and you suddenly push the throttle. All that together made you feel like you suddenly were taking off. I made a temp fix by putting the accel hey on the min position which decreases it's length of travel and gives the oedel more mechanical advantage over the acell jet arm which allows to push smoother.
The idle surge was the choke not returning all the way in high idle. I set the idle with it not returned completely and once it snapped back during driving my idle was suddenly low causing it to surge. It seems like the boss in the carb is worn down Wich doesn't allow enough that you can tighten the screw without it pushing on the arm. The simple solution was to not use the choke for now and reset the idle with the choke mechanism returned completley.

These are things I'll have to working on after VTF.

  10. Nearly 300 miles later we have made it back home from Vintage torque fest which of course means our little project was a great success. Of course the project isn't done but for the scope of this thread it is complete. You guys have been helpful along the way and I'm truly grateful.

  12. Car looks much better. Looking at that nice side shot, I think you should rethink adding the stainless trim between the side window and back window. JMO...

  13. The interest of the side trim comes from wanting the roof a different color. I like when the doors and b pillar are the body color and only the drip rail up are painted. I feel like it's more suttle
