I agree with you Von Rigg Fink. Trajectory, if your in a hurry and put a rifle round out there at 45-60 degrees it's going to come down with enough velocity to put an eye out!

Although if you put one in the ground you might hit a gas or water line. Well that would be my luck... :]

No tresp***ing , no hunting signs ,traps being used signs need to be posted . But most tresp***ers can't read and the right lawyer can twist the law in the their favor.

So, more that 25% (22/80) of the replies on this thread advocate shooting someone trying to take s**** metal from your yard? The internet is a tough place! Are you guys really going to kill someone over maybe a couple of hundred dollars of s****? Take a chance on going to jail for life? Ending someone's life over junk-really? No ethics or morals here?

I was taught to not load a gun unless you plan to use it-see what you're shooting at and don't miss. Racking a shell into the chamber means you plan to shoot. What's your plan if they shoot back? What if they hit your family? And justified or not, how would you feel ending someone's life because they were stealing s**** metal-maybe they had kids at home to feed and were desperate?

Protecting your home and safety is fine-I would hope most of you are just blowing keyboard smoke or haven't considered all the consequences.

hahaha i hear ya..wham hit the gas line and light up the entire neighborhood....hey hot dog roast at my place.

I think , if i were the type to fire a warning shot;)..that i would put it into something solid..there is such thing as gun control..and thats having the ability and training to hit your intended target , at least close to where you aim...aming is the key:cool: and follow thu.

A guy I know had a 49 Merc on his property next to his garage that was his next project. After returning home from work on friday all that was there was skid marks from someone loading it on a trailer. Neighbor down the road said it was a junk man with piles of s**** around noon. He went to s**** yard on monday and they said everything was already recycled and they didn't know who it was.

5-WINDOW if there are any PA. s****pers on here with your post you just told them that you are an easy mark that would just let them take your stuff and do nothing about it.ethics ,morals maybe just get a set. You mean to say you would not protect whats yours wether it be family or your property.

F*ckin' hell. damn thats harsh. I couldn't imagine what i would do if that was me. We dont really have any s****per problem where i live. I used to leave my project (one in my avatar) in the yard at my old place of work, an automotive business, and a few times all the cars on the yard were broken into. fortunately, there's nothing that junkie kids can see of value inside the car.
I had another car i was refreshing, i hadnt locked in over 12 months.. in the front lawn, left power tools in it all the time. I know i was asking for trouble at times but never so much as a washer was knocked off.

I would be out for blood if what happened to your mate happened to me. I would not be able to control myself and i know it.

I've been lucky, I haven't had any stupid s****pers come to my house and I have a lot of vehicles laying around. I have sold a couple of OT rusted out 80s mini trucks to a s****per. He seemed like an ok guy. One had parts taken off of it the other one was going to be used for a demo derby. For the most part if it is s**** I take it in myself. There is a lot of tin and misc steel on the property. I've been taking in s**** off the place for the past 2 years.

But you can bet the theif knows the consequences of his actions and 90% of them are armed and dangerous with prior records..so if you take one out.. your doing the tax payers a good justice..and no feeding and housing and releasing of s*** back out to affect another persons life

wait until you are treated like a victim, your view will change...maybe

I sure didn't say I wouldn't protect my property-want to try? But, I don't think I have anything material worth dying for, going to jail for or killing someone over-certainly not a junk washer or a pile of s**** metal.. My point was, all the tough guys loading guns had better be prepared to do just that and the thief might be a better shot than you were.

About mid summer I had a s****per that pulled through my gr***(not my perfectly fine driveway)and stop. Then the idiot plow his horn to get me to come out of the shop and asked if I had any s**** metal to throw away. Being nice I said sure with hopes of maybe getting yard cleaned up alil. The best part is he told ME to load it up and as nice as I could be, I told him Hell NO You are making money of this stuff you load it! He then got mad at me and left with nothing! And yeah I was laughing as he drove away.

As for rounds fired into the air not killing anyone, think again! In Arizona they p***ed "Shannon's Law" it was named after a young girl who was killed by a bullet that came from being fired in the air and forensics proved it.In the Phoenix area they are using tracking devices over the holidays to catch the people doing that,my neighborhood got a lot more peaceful the last 4th of July and New Years.

probably like i said, wasnt fired straight up..at trajectory..than it might have enough velocity and energy to kill..

and those are hype laws..you know feel good laws for those who cant think for them selfs.

and yes, lets face it..idiots firing guns on New years ..drunk and stupid and guns dont mix..for some people the laws have to be made, 'cause there too stupid to think for themselfs

    guess its pretty rare..http://mythbustersresults.com/episode50

    http://www.straightdope.com/columns...-into-the-air-kill-someone-when-it-comes-down

just like throwing a penny off the empire state bld..terminal velocity and physics play a huge role in why its not an issue

like i said before..still not a good idea..but its no more lethal than getting bonked on the shoulder witha 2x4..yep it might hurt ..but unless it hit a thin area and a vital...pretty rare

  20. Thanks.........you saved me the time typing this same thing. It's not that easy, or atleast it shouldn't be, to kill someone............

A thief is the same as a pedifile, an athiest, or a liberal. They have no soul. Hollow and rotten inside. To even consider them as people is more than they deserve. It doesn't matter what is being stolen, it's the principle. Something this country hasn't seen in many years.

Some of the responses thus far make me worry about some of you guys. As a photographer, I've had ***holes pull guns on me before. A guy in Wendover (Bonneville) pulled a gun on me at a photoshoot! We were on public land at the airport, but he accused all of us of being there to steal parts. Accused all hot rodders of being thieves, hated Californians, hated Speed Week. Hated anyone not from his town.

Some of the responses I have read, remind me of that hateful man. Little did he know I had my own Mossburg 12 gauge a few feet away in the van.

There was an article that I read in the Chicago Tribune, probably 10 - 15 years ago. A family went on vacation one summer and when they got home, their garage was gone. The ENTIRE garage, not just what was in it.:eek::eek: It was made of bricks and the theory was that s****pers stole the garage so they could sell the bricks.

We dont have the problem of the ****hole s****pers around here, all the ones i know will not show up unless called. all of them are good guys and are clean in what they do . Ill throw s**** iron in the back barnlot in a pile and one time a year ill call ole duane and here he will come and he wont leave until every last bolt is cleaned up out of the dirt. Ive heard of the bad ones but never ran into them.

On the whole shooting , not shooting deal .
First of all , anyone who fires a pistol or rifle up into the air is an idiot. You have no idea where it is coming down , it should not be done. Touch em off in the dirt . Now dont take this as im against guns . when it comes right down to it theres a good chance im one of the best armed Hambers on here ha ha ha.

Around here meth heads are more of a problem than s****pers . And who knows what those strung out junkies will do . Theyve been known to do some pretty horrible **** to folks . I got back from fishing one night at about 3 in the morning , my 55 had been sitting outside the garage that day , all day so who knows who drove by and saw it . So i get home , take a shower and am sitting in front of the computer in my underwear getting ready to go to bed. I see headlights hit the second driveway behind the barn and then go out , In the pole light i can see the reflection off car windows creeping around behind the barn . I reached over and grabbed my side by side 12 gauge chambered in 3 1/2 inch with screw in chokes " full and xtra full" its a turkey cannon , loaded it with 3.5 inch #4's and went outside in boots , underwear and the side by side. They creeped around the circle drive and parked in front of the garage , thats when i stepped out from behind the bushes . They never gave me a chance to yell anything and they didnt know the place to well . Instead of driving straight ahead through the circle drive to the road , they through it in reverse and went back the way they came . I just walked to the other side of the garage and waited for them to come from behind it . When they did i wanted to make sure they knew not to come back " and mark the truck for future recognition" so as he went past me from about 40 yards away i took out the p***enger side tail light and peppered the bedside . Then i jumped in the truck and gave chase but by the time i got lined out they were already gone . Never have found the truck

I'm just glad that I live in Texas and most people with opposite at***udes live far enough away that it's not a concern.
