I just got back from the s**** yard and am I bummed. I couldn't get anyone to buy my old 55 Plymouth flathead 6 and 3 speed transmission so I s****ed them. All I got was $39.00, hell if I had known that s**** was that cheap I would have given them to some one. The engine needed rebuilt, but the 3-speed trans. was good. It really bummed me out to take it to the s**** yard. Oh well, you live and learn.
ya s**** prices are down here too which is a good thing cause less old parts are finding there way there
I hadda do the same thing with my good running 40 chevy 216...no market for it. Junked the front and rear axles/suspension too.
$39.00 buy beer and coupla steaks. Now everybody you meet will need a part off it, or the whole thing. To complete a restoration, no less. I had a rapidly rusting 71 torino (o/t I know) that I walked past on the way to school. It needed the shift linkage hooked up and other minor things. Right before the divorce she said it brought $15.00. On the brighter side I got a brand new SUN timing lite at an estate sale for $2.50.
#1, how long and where did you try to sell them? #2, you didn't want it, and it's not a Hemi, did you really expect it to sell very fast? #3, you didn't call before taking it in to find out what they're paying per ton and do the math on your 500, 600 lbs or so? After the weekend at the Nats by rights I should just s**** everything I didn't sell, but I know better, just because that show got a disproportionate number of cheap *******s doesn't mean every show will.
you just have to know how to sell stuff that no one needs. I've "parted out" a junk 1956 265, a 1951 216 and a Ford Y block. all 3 were junk with cracks and/or frozen stuck. I got between 2 and 3 hundred bucks out of each one. basically s****ped only the blocks, cranks, heads and pistons. tried to give the heavy stuff away but all I could get rid of was the 265 block. $39.00 for a flathead 6 and trans?? I got more than that when I turned in my beer bottles and aluminum cans the other week.
AHHHHHHHH Patience young gr***hoppa, it takes time. I sold my mopar flat 6 with trans to a hamber for 150$ last year and he drove from Austin to get it. But it took over a year to get it gone. I find as soon as I get rid of something, everyone needs it. So Im trying to pile up what I can that doesnt sell right away in the backyard hoping eventually some poor soul will want it and have a little cash. Better luck next time.
And I can't give away a 21 stud Flathead locally for parts.......I'm temped to plant flowers in it and call it "yard art".......haha.
I'll take it. Don't know what to do with it yet but I'll find a use or a home for it. I always do. When can I come after it?
I has a BIG crack in the side of the block and weighs a TON, but you can have it.......if you really want it.......sorry no delivery, unless Kevin wants to drag it to you in his truck. I'm purging a bunch of my "junk" in the next couple of weeks. Chris
I'll drop Kevin a note. It can stay in my garage up north until I strip it down and make up little care packages out of it for the trad guys. I may even fix the block if it is at all repairable just for grins. Thanks I like new old stuff.
1. Here on the HAMB for 2 week 2. Yes 3. No, I needed the room, couldn't wait any longer. 4. I know I could have paid for an ad on Hemmings and been out more money.LOL
Common sense says that if you're just going to post it here for two weeks you may as well have done nothing. I would expect to have to post something like that on here, Craigslist, eBay, the Forward Look Mopar site and maybe Hemmings too, for at least six months to maybe get a bite on it. A flathead Mopar six that needs to be rebuilt is a very low-demand piece, and the guys who do need one are not going to pay hundreds of bucks to get it shipped to them, so you have to wait for the guy who can come get it, or will pay your gas to bring it to them. How much room does an imline six engine and trans take up? I could make space for it and you wouldn't believe the amount of **** I have jammed into the garage, ba*****t, back porch, a storage unit, an old panel van, and tucked into half a dozen other cars.
I had no idea. Here I am right here in Morgantown, Ky, and I'd sure as heck taken it for a few bucks.
Uncleaned motor blocks & trans pay the least amount of $$ for ferrous s****. What you shoulda done was put it in the truck bed and cover it up with a bunch of other junk. It all goes to the same place anyways ?
